Bianchi project...

Here's what I'm working on. My 13 years old Bianchi frame build into a new bike. Im collecting the right decals and then the frame, the fork and the handlebar will all three be send to the painter for a fresh coat of celeste paint. After that "tutto Campagnolo" will be the theme with full Centaur 2010 groupset, Record 1" aheadset, Chorus pedals, seat post and bottle holders, and silver Eurus 2010 wheels.

I've Put it together with some old Chorus ergos and my Neutron wheels to give you an impression but offcourse the fork and handlebar will soon be celeste too.

You are having the handlebars and fork painted also? I kinda like them the way they are. You can put some celeste tape on the bars. It will be nice ride when you're done.

AngryScientist 02-05-10 08:06 AM

very nice. the frame looks to be in excellent shape, does it need a paint job?

it would also be my preference to leave the fork and bars unpainted.

where did you order the decals from?

FreddyV 02-05-10 08:10 AM

That my friend, is a nice frame.

I'm gonna be following this :)

CrimsonKarter21 02-05-10 11:29 AM

So it's goign to be full Campagnolo, but the bars are Pro, made by Shimano?

Cool bike, I'm excited to see this finished.

Timo you have such a good style.

I can't wait to monitor the progress of this thread. Please post pics frequently.

Also I agree that the fork and handlebars should not be painted.

Maybe that's why he wants them painted?

Timo 02-06-10 05:33 AM

It's exactly the other way round: I don't mind that it's a PRO because it will be painted anyway. Could with a Deda or Cinelli bar/stem combo but they're twice the price of the PRO and since I'm going for Centaur instead of Record and Eurus instead of Shamal an 800 or 900 dollar handlebar would be too much for this bike.

Unfortunately, yes, it needs a respray. It looks quite nice from a distance but in reality it is very chipped and scratched. Besides, when painting the fork and handlebar it is best to paint the frame too. Nothing looks worse that various celeste items that are slightly off.

Compliment his style then tell him it's wrong?

FreddyV 05-10-10 02:50 PM

So, how's it coming along?

Timo 05-26-10 06:38 AM

I found a better looking fork on ebay and it arrived today. straight 1" full carbon Mizuno to replace the PRO fork. Finally everything is ready to be painted celeste...

Painting the bars and fork would be too much. I like Celeste as much as the next man, but that's overboard.

Why did you choose this Mizuno fork instead of the Pro?

Wait and see ;)

Basically because I want a straight fork to go with the aero downtube and the stealth handlebar. But such a fork is hard to find in 1". Looked for Easton, Colnago, etc. and then the Mizuno showed up on ebay.

Aaarghhh! I waited 2,5 months for the frame, fork and handlebar to return from the painter...to learn that he applied some key decals the wrong way. The "Made in Italy" decals should be between the derailleur hook and the bottom bracket - as shown in the above photo (a photo from the frame as it was and should be). He applied it close to the seat post clamp. Also, the "Bianchi signature" decal should be on the drive side not on the other side of the top tube. Back to the painter.

Too bad. The paint looks great!

Timo 09-10-10 12:33 PM

Indeed, splendid paintjob. I feel awful about the mistakes with the decals so I hope it will be repainted soon...

Get both forks painted. This way if you find the straight fork is prone to shimmying you can easily switch it out.

Edit: nvm, I see the deed is done already. Nice looking!

save10 09-10-10 02:16 PM

That bar/stem is the greatest thing I have ever seen.

FreddyV 09-10-10 02:25 PM

Oooh purrdy! The painter did an awesome job. Too bad he applied some decals wrong.

save10 09-10-10 02:57 PM

Timo - where abouts are you located? I'm looking around for a painter near where I am

That bites. What a letdown. Looks really nice, though.
