For some reason, I like the made in italy sticker better up top.

Timo 09-11-10 02:10 AM

You're in California? I'm in The Netherlands.

yokotas13 09-11-10 02:20 AM

is it just me or is a little ridiculous on the use of the bianchi stickers. reminds me of a honda civic with all the stickers everywhere from back in 2000

Timo 09-11-10 03:38 AM

There's a total of six Bianchi decals on the frame. I'd call that quite modest and comparable to most other bikes. For example, there are eight Colnago decals on a C50, eight on an Extreme C and ten on a CT2 HP B-Stay

eddiepliers 09-11-10 09:25 AM

That bike looks impressive.

And the stickers, you're right.. Have you ever seen a Trek Madone lately? There's about 11 logos on that... Argh

thirdgenbird 09-11-10 09:56 AM

They are clean simple decals too. I like it. Think formula 1, not civic.

Timo 09-12-10 05:06 AM

Well, I found that they are closed on Saturdays so I've send the painter an email to express my complaint. Let's hope it all works out for the best soon. Meanwhile a photo of the complete combination which will give you guys an impression of what it will look like. Will be build with Centaur 2010, Rotor rings, Chorus seat post, pedals, bottle cages, Record 1" headset and Bora One wheels with custom decals (Campagnolo in white and Bora in celeste), celeste bartape and a celeste Flite saddle.

Timo,

This is fantastic. Is this a boron frame?

Bianchis of that era have that many stickers. I just counted mine. Maybe it's the handlebar logos that's throwing you off.

thirdgenbird 09-12-10 09:18 AM

i love it but i fear celeste bar tape will be over the top. i have three ideas:

1. use tape to match the decals (deda probably has something that would work)

2. use white tape, a white saddle, and white cable housing. (white and celeste look great together and it will complement the campagnolo on the wheels)

3. black bar tape preferably deda carbon tape, celeste brake hoods, black cable housing (black will complement the components and celeste hoods will continue your theme and match the saddle)

Thanks! No, actually it's a 1997 Mega-Alu

Well, before I showed this stage of the build most people in this topic (and topics in other bike forums) complained that painting the handlebar or even the fork would be an overkill of celeste. But apart from the wrong decals (which is why it will be send back to the painter) I am on schedule so the planned celeste Flite and tape will stay :)

AngryScientist 09-12-10 12:36 PM

looking great, as expected.

FreddyV 09-12-10 01:18 PM

Dude, if I see you riding somewhere in NL I'll be sure to greet you and tell you IRL how sexy that bike is.
I didn't think the bars would turn out so nice.

You might just go a bit over the top with the celeste tape and saddle, but we'll only know when we see it finished. Good luck with having the decals/paint sorted out.

Looks good, I don't see what's wrong with the decal placement other than being different but whatever makes you happy.

soulbike 09-12-10 08:16 PM

Personally I would lose the Bianchi on the TT. The rest looks perfect, even if not period perfect. I also echo white tape and saddle. Get the italian champion finishing tape, perfecto.

Very hot. I have a Bianchi Megatube Ti and want to rebuild it like this.

When I was a poor student back in 1997 the Megatube Ti (Gewiss, Berzin) was my dream bike but way out of reach. I bought this Mega Alu instead, used it from 1997 to 2002 and dug it up in the attic last year. Rebuild that Megatube Ti, go for it!

I spoke to the painter today and he will correct this. A complete respray seems not necessary but he can remove the decals and place new ones (the same way he often removes names from original owners from 2nd hand bikes).

nice stuff

I really love the retro bianchi paint colors

Timo 09-23-10 11:59 AM

Here's an example of the sort of celeste overload I like ;)

Stickers and paint

Where do you find Bianchi stickers? And is the painter someone who specializes in bikes, or can any auto body painter match the Bianchi paint?

Sorry if these are lame questions. I just found out today that my brother is giving me his old Bianchi (from the mid 80's) and I want to fix it up as well. I'm not even sure which model it is.

Thanks.

Matt

Most decals can be found through ebay. Search for "Bianchi decals" and you'll find several retailers. My bike was painted by a specialist (the same guy who does the world champion bikes for Theo Bos, Marianne Vos and others). He also made de "signature" decal on the top tube. The official name for this color is "Celeste #227".

Hope this helps.
