Of course.

By the way, went out for a 30 miler liked the bike feel and the weather so much I took the long way home. 35 miles. Getting used to the Addict and liking it more each ride.

Have you been riding with the DA clinchers? If so, what are your impressions of them so far?

Mine just came into the office like 30 minutes ago. I'm going to try and have a review up in a few months after I thoroughly test them out...

Great wheels, they smooth out the ride on a stiff race bike like the Scott, they take the edge off. Lightest clincher wheels I've ever ridden. Very happy with them, I have about 80 miles on them so far. No wheel flex, smooth as silk, responsive, light. What's not to like?

They made a horrific noise on the bike in the first few miles (freewheel sounded like it was grinding or something). I stopped on the side of the road, spun the wheel, shrugged, and rode the next 20 miles. By the time I got home it was gone, now they sound normal, spin smooth as silk. Go figure.

But unsportsmanlike or not, there is something funny about watching a guy fishing in a barrel with grenades.

Hopefully, he'll stick around awhile longer.

So I just played around with the DA clinchers on the trainer. The hub is super loud and there seems to be some sort of drag. I think this is what you were referring to. We'll see how it goes on the road...

Also, the wheels were made in Malaysia...

You never get close to that unless you can find some determined idiots to keep this alive.

Pcad's thread about the Psimet-built Zipp 404's has 1800+ replies and 41,000+ views. That thread has more replies than the "Hot r Not" thread...

I can only think on one thing that this thread needs more of...

Hmmmm, the hub on my DA clinchers is not as loud as my William's 19s or Neuvations. Rather quiet I thought. I did notice that the DA's do not spin as long as the Williams in the bike stand....not sure if the bearings are a tad too snug????

As far as ride goes, I did not notice a huge difference from the Williams on my carbon frame, but due to road conditions I only had it out for a very short spin. I did, however, notice a considerable difference when I put them on my aluminum Colnago frame. A much, much smoother ride. I had originally bought them for the carbon bike but may keep them, for the most part, on the Colnago given how much they have improved the ride.

patentcad 02-22-10 08:29 PM

I really do dig those wheels. By far the lightest and nicest clinchers I've ridden. $800 from Wiggle plus I got hit for $70 in customs. But that's about the same price (or less) than you'll pay for Kysirium SL's, and these are better riding, lighter. I doubt they'll be as bulletproof, but we'll find out. They are a perfect match with the Scott. Nice having a clincher tire training bike that weighs about what my old Six13 weighed in full race mode with Zipp tubular wheels. Very happy with the mix of bikes I have now, the Ibis Ti is rather plush, and I have the TT bike too, which I'm training on more frequently now, that saves wear on the other bikes.

Also, that S2/404 setup is so aero I had to hit the brakes on the one 40 mph descent to avoid rear ending the guys in front of me going down the hill. Man that bike rolls fast. I've noticed that time and again. That S2 aero wheel combo does help when you're trying to ride with faster guys, i.e. for me, anybody else on the planet with USA Cycling license.

You under stand that this is just because you are heavy right? Same thing happens to me on my $1000 bike

Do you have the WH 7850-C24-CL or some other DA? The 7850-C24's definitely make this sort of loud "whrring" (grinding?) sound (maybe I have to break these in). I have some DA 7800 hubs on an OP rim and those hubs are dead silent. The whole ratcheting mechanism seems different on the WH 7850-C24-CL (best pawl engagement I've ever seen on a hub, similar to CK).

Initial impressions are that they were worth it for the price I paid but not blown away, yet; they actually seem somewhat similar to some handbuilts I have on one of my bikes (DT Swiss 240s hubs with Enduro Zero bearings, Mavic Open Pro, black Sapim CX-Ray, red alloy nipples) in terms of appearance as well as construction, except that they don't seem to spin nearly as well (at least the rear wheel on the trainer).

I haven't even ridden them on the road yet or broken them in so before jumping to conclusions, I figure we'll see how they are after a few months and a couple thousand miles on the wheels.

One thing I did notice is that the spoke tension (pitch) is nearly flawless. Also, the spoke tension on the drive side seems insanely high.

patentcad 02-22-10 10:07 PM

They broke in after 20 miles and the noise on my rear disappeared. Very strange.

Smoother ride, I think it's due to the CF in the rims. I doubt you would notice this on urban streets, you'd need rural roads with more variety in the roughness of the road surfaces.

I have the WH 7850 - C24 - CL. While not silent, the hubs are at the low end of the noise spectrum compared with my other wheels. No grinding/whrring sound that you or P-cad experienced.

All my riding has been on urban streets, but as I noted above, they have transformed my aluminum build into a completely different ride. It almost feels as if I am riding a carbon frame.

6" due tonight, then a day of flurries, then the alleged Blizzard of Oh Ten II Thursday into Friday. That should make the 55 mile drive down to MSG for the J. Mayer show Thursday night interesting.

I'm making this stupid thread my permanent BF Blog. The title is appropriate.

Not that all of BF isn't my permanent blog, but I do feel that idiot Twitter Feed on the 33 needs an even dumber 41 counterpart. Friggin Road Nazis.
