Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's why I pay >$100 monthly for homeowner's insurance.

Let it snow. Hell, I hope it caves in, I'll be needing a new roof soon. Let Nationwide pay for it.

Yeah, I remember feeling slightly sick, that year, when I saw just enough shiny fender peeking out of a snowbank to identify the buried car as a Jag.

When I left home this morning, none of the streets were cleared - I think that cars will be buried once the plows start makin' the rounds.

Come over here and shovel snow. I've been dong it all day. I'm exhausted. The walks (front and back), a 150' path to the road (our driveway isn't plowed yet), part of the rear deck and unburying the heat pumps and basement office windows. Oooffaaaa. It's 1:30 and I haven't done any actual work yet.

I'd say that's an aerobic workout.

I'll tell you what boys, if I hadn't done that deck rehab in October, our rear deck would be in the valley. The weight of the snow on that structure is unimaginable. Under the new supporting lumber and foundation wall, it seems to be handling it fine. I'll be slowly trying to get some of the weight off, did some shoveling back there today.

Why don't you just let it melt off in a day or two like we do here?

So I'm wondering what deer do when the snowpack is 50" deep. Today I learned. They swim in it. First shot is deer wading through snow over their heads in the yard, second shot is Sam starting to chase them (he went about 4 steps and retreated).

My dog loves the snow, but he doesn't know what to do with this much of it. I had to dig out the heat pumps on the side of our house (along with our office windows).

Heat pumps are not very efficient this far North.

IIRC it's a ground source heat pump, which means 55 degrees.

Air source heat pumps start losing efficiency big time below 40ºF.

Have you looked into converting to ground source heat pump, or gas heat?

Might be able to get a nice tax break.
