THE new york city song

and a more modern take

The Boxer is a lovely ballad, but it hardly qualifies as a NYC street song kid.

My neighbor is a survivor of that 70's scene. I mean, he was in the thick of it, hanging with all the fancy people in the magazines. Then he moved to LA and lived that fast life, from the beach houses to skid row and back again. He cleaned up in the 90's, and somehow became friends with the people who started Myspace. He goes on vacations with them on their yacht. He writes articles, makes films and documentaries about street life. He lets me borrow his guitar when I feel the need to strum.

KiddSisko 08-03-10 02:00 PM

I know nothing about NYC street life from any era. All I know about NY is from songs by Lou Reed, David Bowie and The New York Dolls, the Godfather and When Harry Met Sally movies.

Crash716 08-03-10 02:00 PM

I've always like Mos Def...

odd being that i am a 36yr old white guy from socal.

At least somebody appreciates my contribution here.

echappist 08-03-10 02:04 PM

pcad, you probably know this. lady gaga studied at nyu before she dropped out & cashed in. maybe she should write a new song for nyu:p

Velo Gator 08-03-10 02:04 PM

And now, UPS says the 5th.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but you need to learn the facts of life: The difference between your annoying picture laden thread about your new bike and Jen's annoying new bike thread is that no one will care about your thread.

that's actually the only song of his i like. i like talib kweli a lot more.

hey pcad, to your list of free things at columbia you should add free concerts every spring. talib kweli performed last year & ghostface performed this year. hopefully, we won't be dumb enough to invite gaga, but i doubt it

Velo Gator 08-03-10 02:12 PM

Cervélo will send a "good will" basket.

coasting 08-03-10 02:12 PM

My late teenage years in NYC played out more like an ultra extended scenes from Scarface and an old Western. The neighborhood I grew up in was typical NYC middle class transitioning to ghetto area that eventually devolved into the crack cocaine capital of the city. In hindsight it was an interesting experience because you develop a pretty keen sense of awareness when it comes to being aware of potential threats and bad situations. My fondest memories were of summers playing in the open hydrants with my friends who all lived on the same block, before the yahoos showed up and destroyed it all.

Velo Gator 08-03-10 02:15 PM

Will someone commiserate with me please? My bike is lost in UPS hell.

i believe most will call her an alumna ;), though she may disagree with the usage of such a premodernistic terminology of gender, but then again, i don't expect you to learn these finer points of Latin at UT Knoxville :p

on a more serious note, off the top of my head, i think Rudy takes billing. he went there for law school

It's what happens if you wear underwear under your shorts.

Hope it turns up, though...

how about: No Cervélo for you! ® Pcad

on a related note, i had to wait three weeks for my c-dale to get shipped from Cali to NYC last year. the bikeshop missed a few deliveries, and then the eight day-long journey across the continent

coasting 08-03-10 02:21 PM

i have a friend who went to nyu and then clumbia for his mba. he is a blithering idiot.

good music is good music no matter how old you are or where you are. Then again, good hip hop died with start of the 21st century, and now we can thank my classmate Pitbull for finishing it off.

I'll bet he can spell, though...
