Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes, seriously dead. Sitting by the side of a road when a storm blows through the Colorado mountains because of a mechanical issue that you can't fix puts you at risk. Hypothermia is a serious issue in an area where temperatures can drop up to 50 F in a matter of a few minutes. Lightening strikes aren't uncommon in my state and the storms move very quickly. If you are waiting for you buddies to climb a pass so that they can go get the car to come rescue you, you could be waiting a very long time indeed.
