Brake assembly wear from cable housing - normal? (Pics)
So when I first got my bike, it had what looks kind of like a "dent" in the front brake assembly. I thought it was a "feature", as one of the cables in front, whenever I was steering straight, "rested" in the "dent". And thus I never inquired about it.
Fast forward about two months to today, I was showing a friend this, and he said that it was definitely something that is not a feature , so I probably will be taking it to the bike shop soon when I have the time. In the meantime, what do you guys think? I tried to take pictures, but this is the only one that can clearly show it.
I assume Shimano will replace it, hopefully.

+1 How is your housing routed? I can't see how that's even possible if it was done correctly.......

Ask, and you shall receive: That's the way it was when I got it.

Housing is way too long. Bike shop is responsible, you should take it back to where you bought it. This isn't a problem with the brake/Shimano.

Ask and you shall... nvm. *sees the new posts* Well I guess it'll be interesting going to the LBS and see what they say (and what they will offer to do, as the LBS that I originally bought the shop from is... about 2.5 hrs away... a doable drive, just... yeah...)

I know what the drive is like just to go to a decent shop...(at least it's only an hour and a quarter for me) Let us know what they do (or don't do, but hopefully that's not the case).

Well, the LBS here is a 5 minute drive, as I said, the LBS I *bought* my bike from, however, is a 2.5 hour (2 actually, Google Maps thinks we all drive the speed limit ) drive away. But I know what you mean
Thanks everybody for the quick replies. Will report back once I take it to the LBS.

If the shop is 2.5hrs away forget it. Just trim the housing yourself. It'll take you much less time even if you screw up a few times.

So did you drop the bars in the stem yourself? Did you shorten the stem? Did you flip the stem? All these things will make the housing longer than it left the shop when you purchased it.
If you didn't do any of the above... it's on the shop. I tend to make wholesale fitting adjustments when I get a new bike home and 9/10 i'm cutting housings and shortening cables.
Any of this ring true?

It shouldn't be touching the metal to begin with... Bad assembly job.

haha, good to know. Am thankful that I asked BF about this instead of just continuing to ride it.

You'll have to buy an 808 set to account for all that added drag up front
