hi, can I use a dura ace 7900 crankset with my sram red groupo??

Yes. One of my bikes has this exact setup and it works fine.

Whats special about the brake calipers that cant be used with older brifters?? anybody knows?

Different pull.

As such, using new levers with old brakes will yield a firm lever feel but less power while old levers and new brakes will have plenty of power but a spongy feel.
I can confirm the former is definitely true.
