Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strange deer encounter

Tonight as I crested a hill 2 deer crossed right in front of me and bounded the fence at the side of the road. Both caught the barb wire and much hair came off them(maybe they are losing their winter coats) and suddenly I was riding through a cloud of hair. I don't mean just a little hair , but more like being in snow globe. Short hair and long hair. Somehow this seemed almost magical as compared to most of my animal encounters. Maybe I'm making more of it than I should , but it was something I won't soon forget.

Yuck, do you know where that deer has been? Cycling through a hair filled snow globe doesn't sound too magical to me. To each his own.

Hope you didn't try to catch any on your tongue. Deer hair is not as good as snowflakes for that.

One man's epiphanous encounter with nature is another man's retching disgust, apparently.

Hey Frisky, appropriate choice of names for someone who likes to ride through a cloud of doe fur. I'm sure it was one you had to be there to appreciate.

You might want to check yourself for ticks. Seriously.

While commuting to work in the winter here in Minnesota I had a stupid buck in rut get mad at me and snort and stomp his hoofs at me one night while riding home on the trail. Scared the crap out of me, as I couldn't speed away from a pack of banana slugs on my 1991 Diamondback Ascent mountain bike converted to a single-speed with studded tires on it.

Made me glad I shot his cousin during deer season a month or so earlier......
