Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kristall frames

I found a listing on craigslist for a frame, fork, crank..etc.

The frame is a Kristall Real..has anyone heard of this?

Also the crank is made by Sugino. Is this a good brand or approximately what is it worth?

Thanks!

I believe are from Switzerland and for 200 bucks the frame doesn't look that awefull. I saw a masi over here in CL for 350 for example. Just making a point.

Do you like your frames

How do you like your frames? What kind of gears have you installed in them? I am looking into a new bike, I am 48, used to ride 30-50km daily while in university. Just want a weekend road bike, I will also use it for triathlon, at 48 I don't want to spend too much, and have a stable bike.
Thanks.

Well i just won an auction for one of these 149.00 shipped so whoever has received one of these it be nice to hear from you. Figured its not a bad deal for a new frameset that's less than 6 lbs (claimed). Could easily knock a chunk off of that with a carbon fork. I've been deciding on whether to buy a bike or build one with parts I want. So I guess I will be building one now! Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

krystall frames

I love the frame-the set your getting weighs 6 lbs (light) I did have to clean some paint off the bottom bracket threads but that was it. I have a 2 speed carbon crank set in front and a 10 speed titanium gears in back. I used 700c X 23 rims. I did replace the fork with a carbon one off Ebay for $68 , it was half the weight off the original fork. My bike completed weighs 16LBS ! and it cost me less than $500. To cut the cost I used bar end shifters and regular brake levers, I couldn't see paying $300-400 just to shift and stop. they work great and it makes my bike more custom than a bike off the rack. If you like some pictures I can send some.

The seat should be level and the bottom part of the bars should be level with the ground. I can't see how that bike is rideable the way it is now.

The funny thing of the frame is that he geometry looks right, probably it rides pretty good also. If you compare with the cheap arss denali's and stuff you know... The bike rocks in my opinion.

quality of riding??

You should make it a fixie. You wouldn't need that pesky cassette either.

Thank for the critique-I'll take them all for consideration-I adjusted everything to my comfort and seems to work well and the bike is very stable and fast. I have an 110 mile ride coming up in october and its has some steep elevation climbs (2000-6000 feet) so a fixie is out of the question.

Ya! Thats awesome that you got it finished. I got my frame a couple of days ago. Building the list of parts now. Thinking of going SRAM on mine. Cant wait to get it done!
