It's your second point that is important - you need to work on cardiovascular fitness to improve your cycling, there's no way around that and you've identified it as your limiter. You should find that the feelings you describe in your first quote can be improved with training (riding). I think it's pretty common to start riding with a lower cadence, but with time riding at a higher cadence will likely become easier and more natural/comfortable.
