Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had a good ride this evening. I managed to take two KOM's on Strava and I had four personal bests.

Same thing as before today(hill repeats):
19.8 miles
3,407 ft elevation gain

https://app.strava.com/rides/7032496

I'm not used to riding everyday....my legs are starting to hurt.

I was trying that too but I don't think I was getting adequate time to recover... New plan: big rides every 2-3 days, rest or low-effort rides in between. Got to 60% today. 11 days left (30th counts). It's a long shot but might be still doable...

app.strava.com/rides/7037942

Also, I think you're getting a substantial boost from Strava's "elevation adjustment". In this ride, you have a 400 ft. initial climb and 7 repeats of Erbes (which other riders' tracks show to be straight up for ~310 ft.) That gets you to 2570. How Strava came up with 3407, I can't say for sure.

Strava works in mysterious ways. Do you see that elevation plot? That's not what you uploaded from your device. That's also not what it _really_ thinks about your track. (If you select the entire plot with a mouse, it will say "Elev Gain 4606 ft" in the top right corner.) So, the elevation plot is completely wrong, and the elevation number is better but still wrong.

I know Strava overestimates, but wow that's a big variation. Yay? I guess......

I'm at 70% right now and I will have to ride 3200ft every day to finish. If I skip a day or two I will have to make up 6400 ft which is going to be pretty hard for me because I do not have much time to ride.

The building that houses my data center is being deprived of power today to build a new vault where main power is supplied. Servers on generator, but the fridge is not, so had to get to work to rescue my chilled lunchtime fixins from their chilly grotto. Why not ride (16+ miles on the first leg)?

Half a minute behind a co-worker on that segement

EDIT: For some reason, the Analysis tab is not displaying my lap stats. Boo, Strava.

I rode with a couple clubmates for 55 miles and about 3500ft ascending. We had to take it a little easy, one of them is just getting his springtime legs.

After that, I stopped at my apartment, had a PBJ sandwich and some chocolate milk, then switched to my sport-touring bike and went out solo to finish up the Specialized/Strava climbing challenge if possible. I needed another ~4300ft ascent and was digesting lunch, so I paced myself.

Anyway, both rides are combined into one here: https://app.strava.com/rides/7136393 I see I snagged one KOM along the way, too and I'm done with the climbing challenge! PIZZA TIME!!

Repeated exact same route I posted here last Sunday. Felt much better this week and took 10 minutes off my time. First time I've felt strong right to the end of a 100 miler

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/170641451

Also used gels for the first time ever on this ride. These things are brilliant. I couldn't see how they would have much of an effect, but they take your hunger away and you feel your strength come back. Need quite a few of them for a long cycle though

Did the club ride yesterday, it was a lot shorter than usual, and a bit slower too.

Hit a medium sized rock on a descent and my front tire blew out. Thankfully I didn't fall and I was able to ride back.
Unfortunately the tire is pretty much toast and I wasn't able to go get a new tire yesterday. I had to get in 5000 ft in today if I wanted to finish the specialized climbing challenge.
I might be able to ride later today, but it's going to be hard to get 5000ft in the time I have.

35.9 miles
4,307 ft elevation gain

Battery died in my Garmin at the beginning of my ride today. I had no idea how many times I look at my computer until I looked at a blank screen a couple hundred times today.

Met up with a friend for a 1000m swim-then bike at Saguaro Lake this morning.

https://app.strava.com/activities/7188048

I did much of this last week during el Tour de Mesa (when I got grief here for my lack of climbing), so I was familiar with much of it. I got some new segment PR's over on Strava

I finished it up with another 1000m swim to shake out my legs.

WOW!!!! Twenty segments on a 20 mile ride. First time I've seen something like that.

I made 1/2 of them to keep better track of myself, all the "Mile # to Mile #" ones are me.

https://app.strava.com/rides/7214548 First longer ride of the season. On the new bike. Even though I have lost endurance without riding a lot over the winter, I still set some records with the new bike. I attribute this to wheels that weigh less than boat anchors.

Nice group ride with some of the guys from SFVBC. Cool seeing snow at the 6,000+ level despite the warm weather in So Cal.
