Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Obsession. I need help.

Today I was just surfing bike shops online and for no apparent reason I clicked on the new Ultegra 6700 groupset to add it to the basket.

Then I realised that I don't have a bike to attach it to, so I started surfing for a new frame.

Then I realised I would need some wheels, but I already have a wheelset coming so my current low end wheels would be spare so they can go on this new bike.

Then I thought how can I put a good groupset on a new bike but put crappy wheels on it so I needed to buy yet another set of wheels.

Make it stop. Please.

You need to mentally separate "the buying" from "the riding". One is good, the other not so good.

I've got a spare seat post. Do you think I should get another bike so this seat post doesn't go to waste?

Furthermore, you can improve the riding without the buying.

New equipment makes you go faster. Everyone knows that.

Whatever makes you happy, as long as you are not spending the rent $ or buying stuff on credit.

I flew home from Boston last week with some kid that was complaining how cigarettes now cost him $7/pack and he smokes 2 packs a day. Now that is an expensive obsession/addiction I just can't understand.

^ $450 a month. We're talking Felt F2 with Di2 in 12 months.

Bikes: 2007 Specialized Allez Double (sold), 2009 Kestrel RT 800

so, in conclusion: start smoking, quit smoking, spend the money you wasted on cigarettes on a new bike.

win-win situation. you get new bike, you stop killing your poor lungs.

It would appear that alleged felt for $6K with the Di2 is a lower line Felt frame, because the higher line Felt frame with similar components is like $10K. But that bike also has fancy ass D.A. CF wheels. Still, the difference in frame price appears to be $2500+. Just on the frame. So how great is that frame on the $6K Di2 bike?

Apparently not that far below the top of the line. I think the different wheelset is part of the price difference. My LBS is willing to upgrade the frame for $800. So I could get the top of the line frame, wth the componet package from the F2 for $6100, after the discount.
