Multiple bikes - SRAM and SHIMANO on either?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Multiple bikes - SRAM and SHIMANO on either?

Curious... For you guys with multiple road bikes and have both SRAM and SHIMANO setups, do you find shifting confusing when you change bikes?

Maybe for one or two shifts if I haven't ridden one or the other in a while, but generally no.

Same thing. Once or twice, then I'm good.

I was told this could be a problem. However, I haven't found it to be much of an issue. Maybe it's because I'm not a seasoned vet when it comes to being in the right gear anyways.

As long as you keep in your mind the short versus long throw it's easy.

Yup; I also have problems when I switch between button fly and zip fly jeans. Those first few bathroom breaks are always a bit awkward.

Never had a problem. But, over time, I came to have a clear preference between the two (actually three -- D/A, Force, Rival).

I'm Shimano-only now.

My biggest issue is probably an occasional "short shift" when switching back to SRAM, up shifting when I want to down shift. But I work it out pretty quickly.

Bikes: confidential infromation that I don't even share with my wife

Like others said, after a shift or two I'm good to go. I have SRAM on my Tarmac and Roubaix and Shimano on my cross bike and rain/night road bike. I also have DT shifters on my Raleigh Super Course which involves totally different tactics when shifting.

usually not too big of an issue, although if you can unify your rides you will always be able to cannibalize parts in the case you need something on the quick.

I have Campy, Shimano, and SRAM. I don't have any issues. I can also walk and chew bubblegum at the same time.

Bikes: 2007 Trek Madone 5.9 (Shimano DA), 2008 Kuota Khan (SRAM Red), 2009 Giant OCR2 ( Shimano 105 ), Lynsky R340 ( SRAM Rival )

every now and then I slam my truck into park trying to row through the gears, because it is hard to recognize what I am sitting on or in.

I've got all three and I agree, takes a couple shifts to get the hang of it. After that it's as easy as riding a bike.

Thanks. If only I could remember not to try to coast after hopping on the fixed gear for the first time in a while.

I like to call that the, "I CAN FLY!" moment.

No brainer. I switch back and forth all of the time.

I've got bikes with Shimano (DA and Ultegra), SRAM (Force and Red) and Campagnolo (10 speed Record). By the time I hit the end of my street (about 300 meters), I've adjusted to whichever shifters I'm riding. No problemo. BTW, I like the SRAM stuff best.
