Just wanted to contribute on this thread and share some of my Video using GoPro HD Hero.

That is one of the most insane bits of MTB riding I've ever seen.

Well done.

that was a lot of fun watching, I love that sort of thing. Where was this? California somewhere I presume?

righto, gracias

Probably my last video with a GoPro. I was having issues
with my month old 960, so I returned it. This was the last
recording I did with it. Will try the Contour GPS next, maybe
I'll start overlaying stats with either Biketelemetry or Dashware.

Nice, I like watching time lapse videos. Chicago looks fun.

Here's one that I made, I posted this in another thread but I'll post here as well.

Still battling the wind noise issues on the ContourHD....

Im sure you are familiar with a "wind sock", used for microphones on booms or on tv news cameras etc? Along these lines, do you think there is room to stick some sort of foam or something or other on your camera? I realize the spacing is probably very tight, but I suspect some sort of foam or cloth might be much better for wind noise--I guess the issue here is being able to put something on and not being in the way of the lens (sorry if I already suggested this)

djb 12-05-11 12:29 PM

I see the upside to trying stuff is that you probably need only a small small amount of "whatever" stuff, so easy to try diff stuff easily. Downside would be if "whatever" could slip down in front of the lens while you are riding and you dont realize it. I use duct tape all the time, but even it can get "gooey" over time, or when exposed to heat (my experience is with lighting equipment using it to hold gels on, so temps are higher, but it can start to let go with heat)

on your camera, is the mic an actual "hole" you can see, or is it just somewhere "within", taking in sound from all over (sorry, I dont really have a visual of your camera)

Im not a sound guy, but remember , the term "wind sock" came from someone just plopping a sock onto a mic, the ones we tend to see are foam, or even the kinda furry, hairy ones we see on outdoor shoots (where maybe they are more effective with big wind)

Anyway, some tape and goofing around with little bits of fabric, or wrapping foam, or who knows what, might be fun to see any differences----downside (sic) of course is that you need to schleep your keester up some hills to get the required 40, 50, 60 kph downhill speeds....

buenos suertes

djb 12-05-11 03:39 PM

took a quick peek, interesting attempts there, as you say, main issue is the physical size getting out of hand

oh, and the shot from the front (notice that I didnt use "full frontal"!) with the pink foam--oi vey! Hay Carumba! Mon Dieu!

maybe some thin flexible packing foam stuff would help if placed in strategic areas and not make the camera stand out like a sore thumb (or any other things....;-)

Hey, you went right in front of my old job place there at Des Plaines and Fulton, pretty much across the street from Get A Grip Cycles. I was waiting for you to stop at Jefferson Tap :)

One thing I think makes these videos even better is a little running commentary, like the ones carpediemracing puts out. Comments don't have to be profound. Stuff like "Here I tried a breakaway, but it didn't work" or "At this point I was cooked and went into cruise control" make the video more compelling.

Great Video

jwible 12-07-11 06:28 PM

Last years vids were better, but the guy who produced them isn't able to do so this year. These are done by a guy on my team -- Beck.

Last year by THE MAN. NSFW - language

And one more. The guy referred to as Joe German races in Germany now on a pro team.

yay'a! this video is awesome. love that spaced out soundtrack!

oi, you're all on the wrong side of the road mate!

fun vid. My sister lives in Wales, have thought of going over with my touring bike and heading out that way from London or Birmingham, but am hesitant to my lifetime of right-side-of-the-road instincts, especially on a bike and the narrow Welsh roads....still might do it one day, but am wary of when one goes on autopilot and in a surprise situation, jink the way I alway have....the wrong jink.

cheers

2nd try with my new Contour GPS,
mounted on the bars with strips of
an old inner tube. 1st try helmet
mounted the angle was too low,
footage is crappy.

My free mount worked better than I thought it would,
no shifting during my 25 mile roundtrip commute.
Now I'm having doubts if I should even buy the flex
strap mount :)
