Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dude I'm so sorry. When my wife and I ride all I think about is her getting hurt. I make her ride 15 meters ahead most of the time so that I have a better chance of getting hit by a car if one come from behind.

Great to hear she's (relatively) OK! Count your blessings!

We only get 1 life. We might as well live it.

Good luck!

What happened to cause the mishap?

That's a real shame, but I'm glad to hear she's going to be ok so it should just be a matter of time until she's back riding again.

Don't over think it. It's like when a child gets hurt, one or both parents may overreact and make the situation worse. Just let her know you care and move on. Can't go forward looking back. GL

If you saw her crash mentally you are probably in worse shape than she is.

Last year, while out on a ladies ride I was out front on a straight away and a car turned into me and took me out. Broken leg, maybe a minor concussion, two sprained wrists, lots of road rash. Good news, my helmet took out the jerk's windshield. As soon as the doctor signed me off I took off on that ride by myself, went passed the accident site, and was fine with it. However the ladies right behind me that saw me flying through the air that day are still traumatized.

And yes, my husband talked me into taking up biking. Can't imagine how he would have taken that had he been alive.

Best wishes to your Wife for a speedy recovery. My wife doesn't ride but my daughter does. She nearly took out a dog and herself on our last ride so I know how you feel. Get her back on the horse!

If it makes you/her feel any better, I got a plate and screws in my lower leg/ankle (and collarbone) and they healed just fine. I don't even know they are there. Best advice: do the physical therapy religously.

...and no, there is no issue at the airport either.
did they take the plate and screws out ? they arent planning to take hers out unless it bothers her

regarding the airport thats comforting to know, i was worried about that.

it's funny you say that b/c she keeps asking about it. i keep telling her not to worry about it. she's worried she wont have anything to ride after recovery.

she was trying to ride w/ no hands. i dont think she was going fast enough and just fell. i think in the manner she fell she fell knee first.

i understand what your saying. i need to stop blaming myself for getting her into riding, getting her toe clips (she wanted these before she wanted clipless) etc.

YES ! that's exactly whats bothering me the most. I keep picturing it and hearing the thump of her crashing w/ the bike. then the images of tears and blood. pretty hard to shake

anyways... i wish her a quick and healthy recovery... let he know... lol... give her a kiss and a hug for me...

The plates and screws are still in both places (going on 11 years now). No worries. Doc says the bones are stronger now then before...

There really isn't anything worse than seeing someone you've evangelized for the Cycling gods being offered up on the sacrificial alter of their whimsy.

I took one of my daughters MTBing, only to see her wash out her front wheel and do a major face-plant. It was heartbreaking.
