Watch out for idiots
Riding home with a buddy tonight, a car turned in on us. He's in the hospital right now with probable broken bones. I would say I got off lucky since I just have a bit of rash and bruising, but my bike isn't rideable due to a wrecked front wheel (other damage is only cosmetic) so I get to hang out until my wife can pick me up.
Be alert out there weenies and ride like they're out to get you.

I never ride on the Friday before a three-day weekend. Drivers are 10x worse than the day before.
I went out yesterday, 35 miles (70% in traffic), not a single problem.

I'm thinking about this crash the wrong way. I can move the Easton Vistas from my other bike to my commuter and get something sportier. Any recommendations for an appropriate upgrade, preferably in the $500 range.
I'm still freezing my ass off waiting for my wife. I'm dressed for a threshold ride, not standing around.

IANAL but I feel like you should be able to at least get damages to cover bike repairs from the responsible motorist. Not to mention to cover your friend's medical bills.

Of course, after years of shaving my legs every day, I just had to quit a few weeks ago. Wifey is here, so I can ride home and clean up.

Yeah, they abound. And they don't always see cyclists when they are stopped at stop signs. Just be careful out there!
Glad you're not worse off and I hope your friend heals up quickly. Good luck dealing with insurance. It is a maddeningly slow experience.

I am happy you are OK! I am taking the bike path home tonight.
Last time I got "T Boned" I took my wrecked bike to my LBS (knew the guys) ASAP, and had his/my insurance contact the LBS for the damage report. No muss, no fuss, they shelled out the coin without a wimper.
His insurance couldn't believe the cost, but the LBS said it was no BS. I told them I was car-free, and I got fixed within 2 weeks.

I had a car follow the "three-inch" passing law earlier (sarcasm in reference to the three-foot passing law) when she passed me. If I hadn't jumped right of the white line she would have hit me with her side mirror. Seriously folks - be careful out there.

Out there for sure this weekend. Full-sized pickup towing a trailer full of construction gear decided he had to pass us on a group ride around a blind turn. He was giving us the finger the whole time, laughing, and some of the riders sorta freaked when a Verizon van appeared from the opposite direction and almost swerved off the road into the ditch. Buttmunch driving the truck swerved back into the lane just in time to avoid the van, and very fortunately his trailer had cleared our lead rider by about 10 feet before he did.
Real sorry to hear you guys got banged up, but glad the outcome wasn't as bad as it could have been.

This!!!!!!
I dont see what the difference is between this year and last year or any other but this year people, even law enforcement, seem to have taken overdoses of stupid pills. God save us all.

They are not just driving home, some are racing home to get the suitcases to race to the mountains, lake, shore, vacation home......most should take off the day before and drive at night. I never drive in Jersey on a friday afternoon. Jersey is the Drunken State and have this nasty little law whereby you can buy your way out of a DUI by paying double the (substantial) fine AND have it expunged from your record. It is now a money maker for them not a way to clean up the roadways. With that law in place I realize there are extra people in Jersey who should not be on the road at all, some are driving on their 5th DUI with no reason to change. All should be very careful in that state and any other which may put money ahead of life.

Stop whining. Start litigating. There's a new bike in there somewhere.

Having multiple DUI's on your record doesn't seem to change anything either, they will continue to drive legally or illegally, and they will continue to drink.
