I was thinking of getting speedplays for my bike, since I dumped my SPD-SLs. The problem that i had with my SPD-SLs was there was not enough side to side adjustment in the cleat, and I ended up with knee problems on the inside of my knee due to the too-wide q-factor. I'm using regular spds right now, and they are alright, however, I want something that will keep my foot in better. I've found that if I increase the tension, they are too hard to get into, and if I back it off too much, I pop out of them when trying to do a hard effort.

anyway, is there any lateral adjustment in the speedplay cleat? is there ANY adjustment? I was looking at it online, it appears that the cleat bolts in a doesn't move, maybe theres something I'm not seeing. any help you guys/gals can give would be welcome.

I picked up some Speedplay Zeros in April. There is lots of lateral adjustment and plenty of float adjustment for more or less heel-in/heel-out.

sweet. how about the x-1/2/3s? I was thinking of getting the zeros...but if the x's dot he job w/o problems... I might get them...

I have the Speedplay X2 and loving them. After loosening the springs, it's as easy as hell getting on/off of them. Also the double side entry rocks.

I have X2s on my road bike, this is the second bike with them. I've had knee surgery and have no problems now. I still have two sets of old 747s that I use on my mt bike.

Ive also used the X2 for the past 5 years. I like them a lot but they took a few rides to become comfortable with the entry mode. After 12 years of using Look road pedals, by nature, you grab the pedal with the tip or toe of the cleat - rotate it forward iand click in. One smooth move. The Speedplays want you to sort of feel the correct location and then push you full foot down onto it. I cursed the Speedplays for the first two weeks but just like wearing contact lenses, you get use to the new feels. They rotate very freely. Some one liked it to standing on ice cubes. I have never had one come unclipped by error in motion or pulling up too hard in a sprint. Also, no knee pain either.

I love the free float of Speedplay X pedals. Some people hate it. If you like float, the Speedplays should do well for you.

There is lateral adjustment to the X2 cleat. If you look at the picture that RonH sent, you can see that you can slide the cleat side to side along the slot where the screws are. It doesn't have a rotational adjustment because it doesn't need one.

I've had my X2s for about 5 years and I haven't had any knee problems. I love them for that. The only problem I've had is occasionally being unable to clip in if there's dirt under the spring on the cleats. (Happened when I had to walk across dirt to get to the feeding station on a ride.)

After 30 years of distance running with the attendant knee damage, SpeedPlays are the only pedals that allow me to ride without pain. I have x2s on both my bikes and love them.
