Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's well after 1:30 PM EDT and they are not showing the race yet.

They are showing some inane program called "Anger Management."

WTF?

The Philly coverage was better than expected and the race was interesting. The CL coverage next week will be more interesting.

I guess I'm spoiled by Phil Liget and the crew. I didn't find the Vs announcers to be all that great.

Comcast Sportsnet at least had Gogulski but also a couple of clueless generic sportstcasters, not sure if this beats VS or not.

Way too much picture break-up with their coverage...it seemed like everytime they held a motorcycle shot for more than 30 seconds it started to break-up. After watching it I couldn't bring myself to watch another 90 minutes of the Dauphine TT. TT has got to be one of the most boring televised cycling events.

Yeah, I really liked the part where they said the toughest climb in US bicycle racing is the Manayunk wall...

...I also liked how they kept calling Gogulski the wrong first name.

Toughest climb in the US? Heck, it's the toughest in the world! Maybe even the universe!

this morning one of the local newscasters said, regarding the philly race... "it's one of the most prestigious races in the northern hemisphere." I'm hoping she meant north America.

I found them annoying as well. But I watched with my girlfriend who doesn't ride, and it seems like they did a good job of speaking in laymans terms. They did stuff like explain how and why one of the Liquigas riders was slowing down the peleton with his teammate in the break, so she was a bit more informed about what was going on. So from that perspective they weren't too bad.

+1 They were really not very good. They didn't seem to be very knowledgeable about cycling. They did try to keep the excitement up but fell very short on commentary.

I was there this morning and saw a couple of laps around logan circle, then one real race lap when the big first breakaway of like 30 guy came by downtown. Man they really were moving.

Hoped in the car and watched on dvr this pm. great race.

Actually saw a few women riding the Delta 7 Weave frames.

At least they're adapting their programing to their audience.
