Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dude.

On a two lane Texas road, you just stop at a place where there are no farm houses nearby, make sure no cars are coming, drop that Spandex and drop a load. Ain't no big thing.

I always carry a little retractable lock in my saddle bag. I have mine for skiing, but I"m sure you can find them in other places. Works great if I have to duck into a convenience store at some point for 5 minutes.
I do too on any solo ride more than 50 miles.

This has been the most humorist thread I have seen in a long while.
Brings to mind once while in upper New York state I left a memento in a old cemetery, while on a ride down a lonely country road.

Gas station. Bring the bike into the restroom. Lock the door. If gas station 1 can't accommodate you, go to gas station 2. Problem solved.

If you're out in the boondocks with no gas stations in sight, then this really wasn't much a problem to begin with eh? If you don't have TP, use your water bottle. Portable bidet. Just watch out for the splash back.

You should be doing this regardless for safety reasons in case you crash. Perforated bowels are no laughing matter, especially when full.

This reminded me of the "riders orientation" for a tour I did in Wyoming once. Somebody asked about the frequency of "facilities" and the organizers just said "the cows and cowboys have been crapping on this land since forever; nobody's going to care if you do it too". (Of course, in Wyoming, it's pretty much guaranteed that there will be no farm houses nearby and no cars will be coming, so the privacy issue wasn't much of a concern).

I'm not sure-- is just crapping behind a tree completely out of the question or something? Totally do it way too often.

You'll all be relieved to know today's 50 mile ride passed without much incident except my astonishment at how strong I am now.
