2010 Resolutions--Are you resolving or dissolving?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 Resolutions--Are you resolving or dissolving?

Just thinking back to the first of the year when many of us shared our cycling resolutions. How are you doing with them? I had to go back and find mine to make sure none were missed. They are below in bold, and how I'm doing will be in italics.

Ride at least 6K miles. (Double my 2009 mileage.)
A little behind, but not too badly. Currently at 2,911 miles.
Increase my average solo speed 1/2 MPH (currently 18.5 - 19.0 on the rolling hills of north MS, if there is no significant wind).
Have done a couple of solo rides at 20 MPH over 30 miles distance. Should consistently meet this goal by year's end.
Work on climbing, which is my weakest area.
Check. Good progress.
Avoid crashing and muscle injuries.
One minor crash. Muscles and joints OK.
Do more group rides.
Need work here-- only one this year.
Ride at least 5 centuries.
2 down (both solo unsupported). Should get 3 by year's end.
Do most, if not all, my own wrenching (I'm doing much of it now.)
Check.
Lose the excess 20-25 lbs.
Have lost 15 lbs so far. 15 to go, which will put me at 170 lbs (5' 10 1/2").
What about the rest of you? You got stuff, or you just got fluff?

this sounds familiar *whistle*

i may just start printing out, and hiding, little "htfu" signs to tuck about the house. not-so-subliminal reinforcement.

only two goals for the year:
-look good in hawaii at the end of the year. I'm probably 30lb from breaking the surface of that. goal is, in fact, realistic and that's the killer.
-make it up the hills currently wrecking me.

My goal was to do a sub-hour 40k. I have fallen behind by 3 months due to some work/travel issues, and then lost almost a month due to an injury. It is going to be touch and go - while it is achievable in theory, it is going to be a bit of a struggle. And I have a 5 day MTB stage race in Nov which I would like to do well in, which is going to require a different sort of training.

From this thread ... https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...Goals-for-2010!

My goals were, and I quote ...

"Ummmmmmm ...

Normally I'd have a whole list of goals, but this coming year ....... ummmmm .....

Well, to start, I'd like to do a century (100 miles) in less than 10 hours!! I know, to some of you 10 hours may seem like a really long time in which to do a century ... but when you're in recovery and rebuild mode 10 hours is a brisk century!! Rowan and I did one a couple weeks ago that took us 11 hours ... so I'd like to break the 10 hour mark.

Audax Australia has a series of awards to hand out for various accomplishments so I'd also like to complete the Noveau Randonneur award which means riding 1x50 km, 1x100 km, and 1x150 km brevets (organized and official rides). I've got a 100 km under my belt so far (completed on November 14th - the Audax/Randonneuring season starts on November 1) so I need to complete the rest.

I'd like to build up to a 1000K by about September, but we'll see what happens."

Results ...

-- I have done a century in less than 10 hours.
-- I have completed the rides necessary for the Noveau Randonneur.
-- It doesn't look like there's a hope of doing a 1000K by September when I'm struggling with 100Ks now.

-- And I'm at 3327 km so far for the year, and fading.
