Why so many elitist?
Why are there so many elitist in Bike Forums lately? It seems like everytime a newbie like me posts something on the threads more than half of of the responses are not helpfull. The responses are either making fun of the OP or sarcastic in nature. I have looked around on other forums to see people responses to threads and seems like they're a little more helpful. I just don't understand it. Are the OP's questions, posts just to ridiculous? Is it just my imagination, comments, insights?

It could be that most of the people who you are calling elitest probably do not know anything about what the newbi is asking and just figure it makes thir ego grow when thay are smart @$$es.

I just posted my first thread ever, on any forum, and the responses from this forum were very helpful. I hope your experiences improve.

Think nothing of it. Lots of guys are just trying to be clever. Let 'em have their fun so long as they're not insulting.
The real elitists around here you rarely hear anything from, because they have better things to do.
The rest are wannabee elitists, they just look and act elitist. Ignore them, their delusional world will come crashing in soon enough.
The vast majority are regular joes like you and me. If you encounter an offending post just click on the little black triangle at the bottom of the post and report it. One of the mods will look into it. Like I always say, if you see something say something . . . don't tolerate abuse.

It's this particular section of bikeforums, not the entire site. I have found other sections quite helpful and the threads not full of the b.s. but the road section you have to wade through some lameness to get the info. Its quite different than some other forums for different hobbies that I have taken part in as the number of lame/htfu/smartass posts seems extremely high here. I chalk it up to neon colored lycra squeezing in places that it shouldn't and certain people are just mad about it and vent frustration here.
I also don't understand why the 41 seems entirely devoted to racing like speed goals/training goals or bikes that are racing bikes. Last I checked, one could ride on the road without racing in mind.

So true. The thing is, the main reason I joined, and I think why most joined Bike Forums is to get helpfull information from other cyclist. I understand we all can go to our LBS or contact manufacturers ourselves to get the information we need but, I think those guys are in the business of making a profit and most likely give you info. to benefit them in some way. I believe there is nothing like getting info. from people who have experience on something, i.e. products, training etc
