Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Am I Forgetting Anything?

Goodbye Shimano, hello SRAM...

Force 07 Compact Crankset (50/34) and BB

Rival 09 Shifters

Force 09 Rear Derailleur

Rival 09 Front Derailleur

09 Force Casette (12-26)

Ultegra Chain

Other than that and the brakes (which I'm keeping), is there anything else I need to "make the leap"? I'm going from 9 to 10 speed so only the crankset would work with my current setup. I just wanted to make sure I'm not going to get everything and then have that moment of "Oh isht... I don't have a _____, do I..."

And if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Currently sitting at about $750 (goodbye summer job money!) any would not like to go much higher.

For that kind of money you can buy a brand new complete 2010 Force 8pc groupset.

Welcome to summer camp with 4 yr olds haha.

I figure I can blow it all on a full Force group

Or... Hear me out...

Get a full Rival group and then spend the last $300 on a new wheelset...

Thoughts? Actual budget is around $1000.

you can get a full force group for 50 bucks more than you're spending right now. it'll include brakes and cables and everything will be new.

FWIW, i just got an almost full 2010 rival group, new, without chain or cassette for $450 on ebay.

Is Force really $300 "better" (worth it?) than Rival?

Force is definitely smoother than Rival when it comes to shifting. Also there is no need to go with all that mish mash of parts when you can get a brand new complete group for that kind of coin.

Alright major update here...

650 for full group, Red and Force combo.
Only question here... Crankset is 170, and I'm 6' 1" with a 33.5" inseam. I spin pretty fast (thanks junior gearing!) but I'm still a little scared of dropping that far down.

Should I just go for it?

I'll take a stab in the dark and say E-Bay (GASP!)

Seriously, 650 for red and force sounds pretty good but 170s? I need help!
