Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fork not attached properly to Frame!?

Hey all,

Complete noob here, just tried adjusting my handlebars so they were a bit lower, following instructions on a youtube video lol, and it has resulted in my fork being loose and not attached properly to my frame.

Tried tightening the bolt on top of the handlebars and the 2 on the side but to no success. Any ideas welcome, LBS is closed at the mo so it's going to be a DIY job, but thats how we learn i guess!

Loosen "the 2 on the side", then tighten the one on top. This will load the headset, and reduce play. Don't over-tighten, or you'll make the steering stiff/difficult. After you have that done, make sure the bars are straight, then tighten those side bolts. They should be pretty snug, cuz you don't want your stem to flop around, or come off, while riding. The Parktool website can help you, if you still have trouble. Good luck.

If you lowered your stem, did you leave enough of a gap between the steer tube and your top spacer to allow for compression and loading of the headset? If you didn't, that may be why it isn't getting tight enough.

Good point. Hollisio, if you lowered your stem by removing spacers you will need to put those spacers on top of your stem before it will tighten back up.
