Good reason to wear a base layer

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was behind this crash and had a perfect view of it go down, it was really nasty we were hauling ass. I can attest, umd was tough as nails about it.

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

In Oregon, there'd be half dozen guys relegated for crossing the centerline. Anyway, too bad about the crash. Heal up quick.

It wasn't a race, it was just a group ride that some people take too seriously. I've been filming all my rides lately. I don't like to mix it up in the sprint because it's usually sketchy, but the pack position that I had is usually pretty safe. I don't blame the guy going back, I blame the people sprinting from the middle of the pack and crossing the centerline. I did go over the centerline right at the end because the guy in green moved over on me, and he was also the one that should have seen the slow rider approaching.

Just fine. Other than my ankle, my clothes and my RD, there wasn't much else damaged.

Sounds like you have a broken rib or two as well as the ankle. No use going to the doctor though. They'll just give you some drugs and tell you to rest.

Yeah, been there (I mean in the past). I don't think my ribs are broken but definitely some pain there...

Dude, I am getting off on a tangent here, but that is good footage, not a lot of vibrations! How is that camera attached to you?

Pretty awesome footage. I was looking at your previous Garmin posts (pretty good pace too) and now this! Feel like I almost know you.

Glad you didn't get too banged up although the video seems worse. Hope you heal up soon! Thanks for sharing. I tend not to wear base layer when it's really hot (90+ degrees) but don't ride that often in those conditions. This is definitely something for me to ponder on future rides. The leg in the air was quite bizarre!

that is a freaking excellent video. I was on the edge of my seat thinking, when is it going to happen? Why is the lead up so long? And then POW! It's all over.

More. More please.

Oh and glad you're alright and all that.

Classic example of what goes wrong with too many club rides. Instead of treating it as training, the testosterone takes over and people start behaving as if it's a race with closed roads etc.

Sorry about the crash.

Wearing a base layer in the high humidity I ride doesn't work.

Off subject a little- is that some kind of chip seal surface? It looks pretty abrasive. Probably doesn't feel good to ride or crash on?

Bikes: two wheeled ones

htfu umd.

If it was subby he would've ripped off the RD, shortened the chain with his teeth, put it in the 53/11 and bridged back up and won the ride.

There's a reason they're called "Tuesday Night Worlds", "Sunday Worlds", etc. I believe this one was Sunday Worlds.
