Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lemond steel frame fitting for someone 6'0" tall

Eager to buy an older (2001+) Zurich, Croix de Fer, or Beunos Aires over eBay but I'm having a hard time deciding between a 55cm or 57cm frame. I realize they are longer in the top tube and I'm pretty leggy with a 33" inseam. Generally, I'd say I don't have a long torso and probably don't want to be stretched out as much as I'm not a serious rider...yet.

Any advice from current Lemond owners?

The brand of frame makes no difference. All you need to know is the head tube length, the TT length and the seat tube angle to figure out the vertical height range for the bars and the frame's reach.

You need to post an acutal saddle height from an existing bike or search on how to take an accurate cycling inseam measurement. A 33 inch pants inseam would indicate longs legs, but a 33 inch cycling inseam would be short.

If your saddle height is known and the head tube length is know, then it's easy to predict the stem setup needed to produce a desired saddle to bar drop. What other people use for saddle to bar drop is irrelevant. It can vary from zero to 12cm for riders with the same dimensions. A modest drop is 5mm (IMO), I'm a lot shorter and use 9-11cm.

I'm 6'1", fairly proportional and ride a 57. For comparison purposes my Kona CX is a 58, old Trek was a 58. I think LeMond frames have long-ish head tubes as well as top tubes. YMMV

I'm 6'1, long torso but not real long arms. I found my Cannondale 58 a stretch, had to shorten the stem. My 58 Trek fit like a glove but he 57 Lemond Chambery fits even better! Strange, I'd think it should be longer than the Canni because it's known as a long tt, but it's a great fit and geo!

The top tube is the way to measure LeMonds. At 6'4", a 59cm LeMond fit me just fine, and a 61 would have been OK, if not a tad to stretched out for my fitness at the time.

My best guess: if you like a more upright position, go for the 55. If you don't mind being a little stretched out, the 57 is likely the better fit. But do get yourself some fitting measurements and try bikes with similar geometry.
