Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Our Sorta Fast For Flat Florida, Drama-Free Labor Day Ride

On Memorial Day and Labor Day, we have a traditional ride here in Jacksonville that goes on a loop out through the west side of the county into the sticks and back. All of the fast guys in town come out, we usually have a tandem or two with former Nat'l championship winners aboard, and a good time is had by all.**

I'm happy to report that we had a Labor Day ride that did not involve crashes, yelling, knife fights, or much of any weirdness. It moved along pretty good too: here's the data for the fast section.

Total Elapsed Time 01:27:47
Distance, mi 38.29
Work, kJ 1161
Temperature, °F --
Average Power, Watts 218
Average Cadence 82
Average Speed, mph 26.18

Now it's time for a beer. Or three.

**aside from those who get dropped, crash on bad pavement out near the Equestrian Center, or get into altercations mentioned above.

Noticed you omitted temperature . . . ours was 107F at 9 a.m., in the sun.
Dropped to 98 in the shade.
Yes, we were on our tandem . . .

That summary data was from my Powertap, which doesn't record temps. I think it was (only) 90ish here today. With near 100% humidity, of course..

26 mph in Florida is not fast. *

*In before botto.
(But, seriously, looks fun. And hot. And knife free. That's always good.)

Sounds fun...sadly, I would have been dropped within 5 miles...if not before!
