Mounting issue for bike computer
I have recently been forced to "upgrade" my stem, which does not allow me to mount the computer on it anymore. The handlebars do not have enough space wide enough to allow for the computer to be mounted on the bar, even if I had the bar mount instead of the stem mount. Is there a solution that allows me to keep the stem mounting hardware, but connect to the handlebar somehow?

I rode a 90's model Trek with the old small diameter bars. When I bought my new bike the computer wouldn't fit on it. The bike shop sold me a plastic plug kind of deal for around 10 bucks that mounts on your stem with a ziptie configuration and has the smaller diameter for the computer mount. Maybe something like this would work for you. The brand is Issimo. I could take a picture of my computer mount if needed.

Why can't you use it with your new stem? Every computer has different mounting hardware, I don't think anyone will be able to give you any advice without knowing what you have. Pictures would be helpful.

I have one of these that works well for my VDO computer. It is a little heavier than it looks though.

umd:
Stem is 75mm, 40 degree rise. Yes yes, I know this falls well outside of standard, but the "standard" setup I've been working with the past 1.5 years has resulted in an inability to find a saddle that is set and forget for long distances, and part of that is my stretched out position. I still am stretched out a bit beyond what one would consider normative, but it is as good as it is going to get with this frame and size.
Unless my cyclocomputer is 1cm square, it ain't fitting on the stem
Computer is a VDO MC 1.0+ Tonight I am going to zip-tie it to the top tube as a stopgap measure until a more permanent solution is found. Currently the mounting hardware is oriented for a stem, not a handlebar. I just noticed a tiny little screw that might allow the pertinent part to be removed and then re-oriented as needed. Will play with later.
jmess, thanks for the link, I will definitely keep it in mind if I have to go with a horizontal mount for the computer.
