Actually, PRO is buying the best bike you can afford and then doing the rest of your talking with your legs. What you are describing is POSEUR.

I'm not a pro myself.

But I will continue to kid myself, if that's OK with you.

And even if it isn't. Never, under any circumstances, face facts.

Pcad, the 2011 Scott R3 shares the same 790 gram frame as the R1 Addict. Now that is the buy of the yr.

IMO "pro" would be making a sustainable living for yourself and any family you may have. And by my definition and what I have learned on BF of typical cyclists salaries/earnings/winnings not many of the people who are paid or given something to ride should be considered 'pro'.

KiddSisko 09-08-10 01:24 PM

Nice Asian made bike, that Scott.

Incorrect. That is what Scott's marketing would have you believe. When you dig further, you find that it's an identical frame, but about 100 grams heavier (900 grams vs. 800) and the fork is 60 grams heavier (390 grams vs. 330 on the R1). Otherwise identical, I'm told they ride the same. Still builds up to a very light, stiff, great feeling and handling racing bike. I like it.

900 grams is very light for a CF race frame boys.

It's a testament to the bike weenie proclivity for overspending to save a few grams. Thank God I'd never stoop to that.

Me too. I'm pretty happy with my 23.7 lb. bike rockin' first generation SIS. I dare say I got a lot better bike for the money since I only paid $50. Diminishing returns indeed.

For a teeny tiny climber. You may be pushing, if not obliterating, the weight limit of that frame.

I've seen the pictures and videos of those shattered lightweight race bikes. Is it worth the risk at your age?

I just called him old and fat in case anyone missed that.

Who can argue with this?

kleinboogie 09-08-10 03:44 PM

Agreed. The justification I use to getting a more expensive bike/component/thingie is everything I have/do has gotten me here and I deserve something cool, lighter, more aero, etc. and I'll buy it just based on that. Retailers love me. Plus, I'm big and I'll take any real or imagined help I can get to scooting up the hills a little faster or easier.

I weigh 170 lbs gringo. Dripping wet. That's not exactly Clydesdale material. Besides which the Addict frame strikes me as fully capable of supporting 200 lb riders on 60 mph descents. It appears to be built like a brick shlithouse, regardless of its feathery weight. It is an impressive bit of CF engineering and design.

I like your thinking kb. You'll go places on BF.

The BF Brain Trust will have its Eye on you.

coasting 09-08-10 04:17 PM
