It appears to be built like a brick shlithouse, regardless of its feathery weight. It is an impressive bit of CF engineering and design.

Perhaps.

Scott just called. They want to know where to send your shill check. Why they called me I have no idea.

Your continued taunting only inflates my already preposterously high and insurmountable BF Post Count.

Concur. Just put a new 10sp 105 crankset on my CX bike, and besides the 105 chainrings not being hollowtech, the rest of the cranks are just like the Ultegra. Oh and it has a seriously beautiful black finish.

For me, the 80/20 rule applies for any luxury hobby where the first 20% spent gets you 80% there, and you can spend the whole lot more chasing that ultimate 20%. As a recovery audiophile, trust me, I know, and cycling has nothing on audio gears in terms of that "intangibles" only you can hear or feel :)

Yeah, I guess that makes me a 75/100 kind of guy, having passed over the R3 SL for the R3. I was looking at a Cervelo or a Scott, which ever was *immediately* available.

Where are you finding a decent pair for that price?

Not really sure what LS3/5a are going for these days but given the title of this thread, I figured it would be appropriate to ignore the $500. limit. OTOH I do seriously miss my LS3/5a, and the 4 or 5 systems I had carefully put together and brutally torn apart in the pursuit of audio nirvana.

Why the hate on birding?

Clearly you don't understand the difference the right pair of binoculars and spotting scope can make.

No pun intended, I'm sure.

I'm kind of surprised a forum that is comprised of people that regularly hear "Shazam, I aint never paid no more than $200 bucks for no bicy-hikle, why'd you wanna do tha-ut?" wouldn't appreciate the choice of prime equipment for a highly competitive activity. Birding is cut-throat.

I've asked him this question twice. He ignored me both times.

Where's the compliment? Am I just stupid?

I don't know about that, but look around at who you're hanging out with here.

Incorrect. That is what Scott's marketing would have you believe. When you dig further, you find that it's an identical frame, but about 100 grams heavier (900 grams vs. 800) and the fork is 60 grams heavier (390 grams vs. 330 on the R1). Otherwise identical, I'm told they ride the same. Still builds up to a very light, stiff, great feeling and handling racing bike. I like it.

900 grams is very light for a CF race frame boys.

Yeah, I see that. Did a little research. Boy, they sure make it look like it is the 790g frame. I still dig it. I can get a serious hook up on one, so it might be my new bike. We will see.

$8000 for f***ing birds?
Yes, I believe that is the fine in some states. As well it should be.

Suddenly I'm reminded of one of my favorite South Park episodes.

I'd actually say $1,500 to $1,800 is the sweet spot. Few people (Maybe that Cat 2 guy on Sunday) i know can outride a sweet carbon/alu frame with 105's and decent wheels. Likely even a carbon frame if you know where to look.

I think so too. That $1700 BD Evoke SL gets raves. The handy can also get there easily by putting a bike together from parts.
