I kind of like the gray accents in the 2012 model, but I don't think I could've waited any longer >_<:

The top cap is interesting, to say the least. Definitely different than what I'm used to on my FG. I also tried seeing what it'd be like if I slammed the stem. Is it normal for the shifter/brake cables to feel a little squashed (considering the entire handlebar's being lowered quite a bit)?

Lowering the stem shouldn't bunch the cables to bad.

As to the top cap: did you have an all carbon fork previously? All carbon forks don't use a star nut as it will tear-up the carbon fiber in the steerer tube. I like the cap and think it provides a finished look.

congrats on your new bike!

The 2012's aren't out yet? I wonder how I got one already. Not trying to gloat or anything... it's just weird.

I got a 2012 at the end of november, the liquigas color scheme with 105, at least they told me it was a 2012

For the FG bike, all it has is a top cap that's held in-place by a screw that you screw directly into the steerer tube. This is the first time I've used a star nut, so I guess I learned something new. :o

2012s are definitely out. Some places have had 2012s since August or so, but the LBS closest to me is a small one so they can't really forecast how popular 2012 CAAD10s will be. When I went in earlier this week, they still had a 2008 Synapse (with Tiagra) going for $850, heh.

Why but of course. The bikes seem to look better and better every year... Like trying to keep up with technology.

:D Thanks! 105. Kinda wish I could've gotten Rival. I still like how the 105 feels, though. Might have to opt for a shorter stem, as I feel a little stretched out on the hoods. I'll see if I can get pics in by the end of the week (it's gonna snow here in the Midwest tonight and into tomorrow >_<). I'm really sad to be returning to school on Monday, though . Don't think the new bike will fit in the apartment closet with the beater so the bike will be at home while I'm away at school. :( But that's a good thing; otherwise I'd be riding and spending too much on the bike so soon after having dropped a heavy chunk on the bike itself. Definitely looking forward to summer, though!

A few posts back we were talking about just how light a "weight weenie" could take a CAAD10. The link is to a September, 2010 peice that Velo News ran. Take a look at the 15 pictures that acompany the ariticle. For the product launch - Cannondale built a "not for sale" CAAD10 Ultimate. It came in at 6.3 kilos (13.88 lbs). Quite impressive IMO. I also very much like the balck paint/graphics. A very stealth touch and one I wish was available. Some of you may have seen this article, if so: sorry to rehash. Enjoy folks:

Some of the weight savings on that frame come from the use of anodization on the frame versus paint. On aluminum tubing that thin, I wouldn't trust anodizing. It's a brittle surface, that due to its nature as an extension of the substrate material will propagate cracks to the underlying substrate when the anodized surface cracks.

I only trust anodizing to not compromise the structure if the substrate is sufficiently thick.

Additionally, the bike doesn't have pedals. That will make it difficult to use.

Bikes are usually weighed without pedals.

Might want to do yours. Cannondale actually requires the use of a star nut in some of their lightweight carbon forks. The ~320 gram Premium Plus fork on my 2009 caad9 has a thin aluminum sleeve inside the fork steerer to protect the *required* star nut from damaging the carbon fibers as the stem is tightened down.

Here's what you would have come up with had you done research yourself:

I know. I just wanted to say it. Bikes are weighed without a lot of things that most riders require. It's kinda like wheel weight without the skewers.

Not making accusations of dishonesty...it's just funny to me.

It's been 2 weeks now since I ordered my (in stock at Cannondale) CAAD 10 5. How much longer can this take?

Oh, the agony.

Vaportrail56 01-13-12 11:20 AM

Thats about how long for me to get mine. So it should be any day now:) . What color did you order?

laserfj 01-13-12 09:35 PM

What's the difference between the caad8 frame and the caad10 frame?

I have a buddy who is looking, and I told him I didn't know but I bet I could get a quick response here.

Thanks.

Vaportrail56 01-13-12 10:05 PM

@ laserfj, I believe the caad8 has a more relaxed geometry compared to the more nimble/aggressive caad10 which is also somewhat lighter made with a different kind of aluminum.

my new 2012 CAAD10 5

Everything stock except I swapped the saddle for my Selle Italia. Going to get my fitting done in a few weeks after I've put some more miles on it.

My CAAD7 should be close to that weight by summer. But with pedals and cages.

Real nice. My CAAD lust goes between that one and the bare finished one.

@vanno.velo Did you get the frame separately? Or did you swap out the 105 stuff?
