New Cult Member here...
Hello all.
New CAADdict and new forum member as well. I've had my CAAD10-5 for two years now. I originally got back into cycling when decided to try my hand at triathlons last year. I ended up getting my CAAD because it was recommended that I get a road bike versus and tri-bike if it turned out that I hated triathlons (which I have grown to love). Anyways, forgive the aerobars and the FF seatpost but it's the only bike I have and it's done really well for me at the tri's I've been in. Especially love passing people on their expensive tri-bikes with my setup ;-). Go easy on her. I love this bike! http://imageshack.us/a/img594/9435/005ovn.jpg |

IME, despite the 16/20 spoke configuration, the RS-10s are bullet-proof - and I weigh the same as you. They're a bit heavy at 1,850 grams or so, but I've ridden mine hard for almost 10,000 miles with no problems - and I've hit several potholes very hard. I've ridden them on some very long rides (longest was 230 miles), several very fast short rides, and have a sub-5-hour century with them. They've never even needed to be trued. I have a friend who rides RS-10s. He's heavier than me and rides faster that I do - and he has 5,000 or so miles on his. Again - not a single problem. And - they look pretty good. I plan to update them soon - but that will be a 'want' rather than a 'need.' |
^ Bingo
The RS10s are nothing special but they are solid wheels. I'm 200lbs and rode them without issue. I did upgrade them after 6 months but that was mainly because I "wanted" new and lighter wheels and also wanted to try something different. The rear also became my trainer wheel as I was getting tired of switching tires. Not much changed. Bike got a bit lighter but I didn't get faster nor did the ride quality improve much. Biggest change there was a switch to the GP4000s tires. As for the crank, leave it until you find it lacking in some way. Crank upgrades tend to be lower priority but sometimes you again just want something different. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, get some sweet zipp or ritchey matching bars, stem and seat post. Put zipp alloy stuff on my caad and looks cool and rides the same - i.e. awesome. |

If you REALLY want new wheels, check out the Boyd Vitesse for ~$550. |
A new acolyte has joined. Just picked up a 2012 10-4. I was stunned at how comfortable it was on the test ride and will have pics in a few days.
I was really intrigued by the SRAM double tap, and liked it. Looking forward to some fast, fun rides with hills. Rode a super six but couldn't justify the premium for carbon. Having said that, it was not a simple decision. Jellif hill in New Canaan, Prepare to meet you maker! ;-) |
JC,
You are going to enjoy the 10-4, I purchased mine in January of this year and I like it more every time I ride it. Only mods I have needed were a K-Edge chain drop protector and when the stock Schwalbe Lugano tyres got rock cut I put on Continental Gatorskins in 700x25, just personal preference there. Which colourway did you buy, the raw aluminum and black or the Gulf Oil Racing blue and orange livery? Bill |

I have heard very good things about them, and the roads in Fairfield Co here are just atrocious. With the traffic and minimal shoulders, avoiding an obstacle is sometimes not an option. |

the RS10's are PLENTY strong and i wouldn't worry about them not lasting. however, that being said, There is always room for improvement on wheels, especially the RS10's. Honestly though, as mentioned above. the tires will make more of a difference than wheels or a crank. That and then getting yourself properly positioned on the bike for efficient power over long periods of time. If you held a gun to my head to upgrade one or the other, the wheels would be my choice. But that's because you can easily buy wheels that cost about 3x what your bike did.

I haven't had any problems with the Gatorskins so far. Ride is good and no flats.

While I would agree they are great tires he needs some Vittoria open corsa evo sc black and tan tires. Looks sick on a black caad.

Been lurking the forums for a while before eventually getting my '12 CAAD10 4 at the beginning of Oct. Was looking for my first road bike (came from mountain) at a few other bikes but the reviews of the caad frame was highly praised.
Put about 200 fun miles on it so far. No mods yet besides for switching out the bar tape as it was torn while at the shop, and some carbon bottle holders. Ergo handle bars are in the new future as the curvature of the stock bars puts an annoying pressure on my upper/lower areas of my hands. Any suggestions? |

kunfuzion,
Welcome to BF and the 41, I have a '12 CAAD 10/4 and love it. I put the stem into the down (flipped) position, dropped it 15mm in spacers and set the tilt of the stock bars to fit and to suit my hand position. No problems after this set of changes. My only additions are a Cannondale wireless computer. CF bottle cages and Gatorskin tyres when the Schwalbes got rock cut. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Best N+1 I ever did. |

now including obligatory garage shot. No accessories yet!
All kidding aside, that's a nice looking bike. Love that brushed aluminum frame. Getting a caadx in the same. EDIT: out of curiosity, why do some caads come with the disk and reflectors and others not. Mine had none of that when I bought it off the floor. Do some shops just assume it's going to come off anyway? Seems like a potential liability issue if they take it off before you even see it. |
Well my triathlon season is done so I took off the aerobars and the FF seat post and put it back to a traditional road geometry. I think the bike looks much better this way. I really need to get a dedicated TT bike.

They are, everyone that has them loves them. I want one but I like the 2011-2012 options a lot better than the 2013. I just don't care much for the paint jobs on the 13's.
