My LBS is having a sale on the CAADS:
$2900 Blank Inc $2000 Force 2 $1800 Ulegra 3 $1600 Rival 4 My budget was roughly $2500 pretax, I was going to wait for the 2014 models, think its worth getting one of these? If yes, with my budget what do you recommend I do. Thanks. Which LBS has this? I'd like to buy that Ultegra 3!!! I'm in Queens. Congrats on the purchase!!!! |

Here's my Strava link for the Triple ride: http://app.strava.com/activities/66909272 I also did a real nice solo ride a month or two ago just out of Boulder. Here's the Strava and Garmin course if you (or anyone on here really) are looking for a good climb: http://app.strava.com/activities/54934314 http://connect.garmin.com/course/3627365 Edit: Also by good climb I mean, the "Super James" HC segment that's part of it was flagged as hazardous on Strava. $1800 for a CAAD10 3 is what I paid. Not a bad price IMO. That was for a 2012 last December. If I were purchasing a CAAD10 now, I'd just wait and buy the CAAD10 3. New Ultegra as pointed out, and that frame colourway will probably hold the best resale value (as well as being the most BA). |

If you can, I'd wait. I'm not a fan of the 2013 paint schemes at all. You wait for the 2014 Ultegra and you can go full stealth, plus you'll get the new Ultegra 6800.

Just ordered the 2013 Caad10-5 in black/raw/white from the LBS for a good price. Can't wait to pick it up! From everything i've read about the caad10 in the past, it should be just what i'm looking for over my current bike without breaking the bank.
The good thing is, i'll have money left over to buy some nicer components (probably new stem, some lighter pedals, etc). |

what do you mean by lighter pedals? what are you currently using? if you are using Shimano pedals, the 105 pedals in black for $55 on Nashbar is hard to beat. There are lighter options for a lot more money.
Anyway, i'm trying to think of some easy places to save some weight/gain performance as I plan to ride most the stock parts until I need to replace them. I'm going to replace the prologo saddle with my arione cx. Figure better tires/tubes would be a good place to start, too. |

Hm, I was going to get some 105 pedals (currently using the spd sl-r540s) assuming they were significantly lighter. But, they're advertised as only ~8 grams lighter. I figured my current ones would be boat anchors, comparatively.

I'm in western Nebraska where goat-head thorns are about as common as dandelions. I had originally bought some "Mr. Toughy" tire liners and threw them in my stock lugano tires that came on the bike. I still got a puncture flat every month or so last summer-fall. Later this spring I got a blow-out from my car exhaust on a road trip (because I was lazy and didn't pull the front wheel) so I scrapped those tires and got some continental gatorskins. They're lighter than the luganos and I have yet to get another flat. I don't even have the tire liners in them. (We'll see if I have to this fall when goat-head season really picks up again) Now I'm riding much lighter and can feel quite a bit more grip. I wanted to get a pair of conti gp4000s's or schwalbe ultremo DD's but the shop didn't have any in stock. Anyways, until the gatorskins are worn out, I'm plenty happy. |
as I said in my post, you can come out lighter with pedals, but you will pay for it. to me, the weight difference is not significant enough to justify the difference in price when it'a such a big difference. You can save a little weight and get Ultegras but get ready to spend good money for them.

You can get the Ultegra PD-6700 SL pedals on Amazon for $120 right now. I got the darker grey ones on amazon not too long ago.
Put that money elsewhere. |

Yeah, when I got them, they were like $15 more than the 105s.
Edit: Actually, that's a lie. I can't remember what I bought them for but at the time, the price difference was small enough to consider the Ultegras worth it. |

exactly, they cost more than double the price and the weight is not that much different.

Anyone have a torque value for the brake mounting bolt (Shimano 105) to the CAAD10 carbon fork? Should I just use Shimano's recommend torque (8-10 Nm)?

Hi all. I registered just and this will be my first post. I wanted that to be here in this thread so I can present my Cannondale CAADX and my start with racers since I last had one in the 80's. I'm not past 50 and rediscovered the fun with cycling on a good bike. I bought it about 3 weeks ago and have done about 12 miles. Compered with 0.2 miles in the last 10 years, it's a big change. Regards Jacob |
mrtrinh - nice job on that CAAD8 my friend. not crazy about the seatpost but well done none the less.

But you'll also need this long bit socket http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002YKFI9C/ for the recessed nut because regular ones are too short. |

I used the Park Tool TW-1 (0-7Nm) and torqued the nut at 7Nm. Nothing cracked so far and the calipers are not lose after many repeated brakings.

I just got a CAAD 8 Saturday after riding a Quick 5 Hybrid for a month...I thought it would kick up my exercise a bit....Geeez was i right....Got a decent deal i think...2013 model MSRP $830 got it for $600....I like it...Wish i had the money for better component but the 2300 Groupset was all i could muster...Maybe next year i will upgrade or not...The way some people talk about the low end Shimano stuff makes it sound like i got a POS but it shifts very nicely...
