The current "CAAD8" is just a run-of-the-mill entry-level Al frame. I was actually kind of offended when Cannondale decided to even call it that, since it's certainly not "Advanced" (the second A in CAAD), and the older CAAD8 was actually a pro-tour frame.

I didn't know that. What's the difference between the two? I have the Buyer's Guide from 2005 when the 8 replaced the 7. Shows the CAAD8 Optimo 6061.

Thoughts on the CAADX?

Any thoughts on the CaadX? Thinking of getting one as an around-town commuter, grocery getter and light touring. Not really into the cyclocross thing but the bike seems like a nice all-rounder. What I don't like is the crappy brakes. Cantis should stop a bike well but these seem slightly better than just costing. Better pads or is there a different brake design that might work better for this type of bike?

After a bit more research I found these. Might fit the bill.

He didn't say it was a bad frame, just that it wasn't as good as the previous generation of caad 8 made in the U.S.

^ Nice looking bike. Which model/year? I don't recall seeing one with the dark grey accents on the stays and fork.

It's a 2012...the 5 version. I found a CAAD10 4 Rival from 2012 for $1500 new...sadly it was a size too big. Snagged this guy from a local shop for $1250.

BoomMcNasty 10-16-12 09:41 PM

I think i prefer the '12 colors over the '13. that being said i will be getting a '13 10-3 soon!

Yeah I called all over Utah trying to find a shop with a 2012 model and size 54 - glad I found one. Something about the giant 10 on the top tube just doesn't sit well with me. Enjoy your 10-3! What color did you choose?

VA_Esquire 10-16-12 10:50 PM

Trying to join the cult and get rid of my 2011 Allez frameset......The CAAD10 frameset is 450g LIGHTER than the Allez and that isn't including the extra 200g I would lose by switching from a Rival GXP crankset to a BB30 Force crankset.....

Jealous of your black bike :( When I was ready to purchase mine, there were 0 blacks left in 56cm so I settled with White/Red. But at least its better than the 2013 paint colors/schemes!

BoomMcNasty 10-16-12 10:58 PM

@ Pharm... White black. Not a big fan of the raw that comes on the 5 and the 3.

Very nice.

So after lusting after these every day, I'm looking to join the cult! Would anyone have or know someone selling a caad10 in a 54? Preferably frame only..

Very nice '10 Impreza-aL, looks like a wheel upgrade for you. What length is the stem you are using? Pretty long reach when looking at your frame height. If it works for you ride her well.

I love the Zipp 101s! I was so close to ordering a custom set built with the new White Industries T11 hubs but decided to use the Kinlin XC-279 instead. It's just an everyday wheel for me and I can save the $500 extra I would have paid to go towards for nice deep race wheels.

yes, i swapped out the C24s for the 101s. It's a 130 stem (frame is 52cm w/ 53.5 tt). Working well for me right now. I plan to put some miles in for the winter and get into some criteriums next season.

Sold my C24s and picked these up. Didn't spend any extra $. I feel the C24s were a better build quality but I've always wanted 101s. I plan to race with these next season.

What would you upgrade first - the crank or wheels? I have heard the rs10 wheels may not last very long - thinking of just using these as my winter trainer wheels. I'm 165 lbs.

I would say ride until something breaks then replace it. I'm your same weight and had no issues with the RS-10's for quite a while until a nasty pothole dented the brake track.

While I don't think the FSA rings shift as well as Shimano, I wouldn't upgrade for the sake of upgrading personally. Especially over the winter and early spring you're better off riding with the crappy conditions coming up (sand, salt, water, etc) and then replacing something next spring rather than buying something new just for the sake of it and getting it mucked up over the winter. Nothing on that bike is going to hold you up performance wise.

Just my $.02

Gorgeous looking bike by the way. I love the grey accents.
