The CAAD9 got sold. So that's out of the equation.

I think I'm just going to go with the new caad10. The LBS guy is going to arrange a 58 vs 60cm test ride. That should finalize things. Hopefully...

What should I look out for as indication of a "better fit" I've test rode 58,60,61other than lowering the seat nothing really felt "uncomfortable" and weirdly the 61 CAAD8 was actually pretty good...

Any advice or things I should consider?

I went new for my first bike (CAAD10). I didn't want to mess around with sizing myself to the bike and tuning things for the first year. Now I do most all of my mechanical work.

If I had been in charge of fitting myself to the CAAD10, I would have a lot of problems. It fits almost the opposite of the bike I commute on. Plus I had some bad habits that weren't remedied until the bike sizing (basic fitting).

Same here, could have gone smaller but everyone is different. Short femurs FTL.

Kameleon, I'm about the same size, inseam as you and ride a 58 with a 100 stem. I could fit a 56 Caad too, but 60 would be out of the question. My recommendation would be err on the smaller frame and "fit" the bike to suit rather than a frame slightly too large.

The LBS guy said the exact opposite. =(... I'm sure you guys collective experience are right, I'll just have to wait for them to build the 58cm. I'm in sales and I really dislike people that lie just to get a sale out the door, I hope this isn't the case but it smells like it....

Unfortunately that's how most LBS operate. I went to my lbs yesterday looking for a wheel for an old steel bike I bought with 126mm spacing and he was trying to sell me a 100mm wheel and telling me it would fit fine because that's what he had in stock

Buy the smallest size frame that will fit IMO. It will handle better & be lighter.

I am getting a rattling sound when I ride. It's mostly apparent on smoother roads

headset is tightened to spec
bottle cages tight
der. adjusters are not clicking
skewers are tight
Not the BB (because that is having a faint click/grind of its own )
not the chain
took the tube valve ring/collar thing off both wheels
Not the Garmin/mount and the magnet is pretty tight for the sensor
Saddle bag is stuffed to the bring and all metal parts are separated by the tube (and the tube is in a plastic bag)


Ideas?

Sounds just like something small and metal shaking against something.

I had a noise that drove me crazy and it turned out it was a tiny piece of metal inside the box section of the rim.

Yeah thats about where it's coming from. Do I just off the tire/tube and turn the wheel till something falls out?

Does anyone here have problems with the seatpost slipping on these bikes? seems maybe the single bolt clamp isn't the greatest?

carbon seat post? If so did you clean out the old grease and put new carbon grease/paste/whatever on?

or if it's aluminum is it greased?

I have the thompson master piece, its aluminum. It replaced the stock seatpost and just has leftover residue from whatever grease comes with the bike. I heard its a good idea to have some grease so that the metal doesn't seize together?

clean your seatpost and the inner seat tube dry. they wont seize together if you keep them dry - you can loosen the seatpost collar from time to time just to be safe.

Use some carbon assembly paste.

I noticed a similar noise which turned out to be the shifter/brake cables tapping against the headset. I didn't do anything about it, but somehow the noise is mentally blocked now that I know what it is. Could also be the shifter cables where they run down the downtube, although I don't see that there'd be enough play for them to really tick against the frame.

Depends on the rim. With mine once I knew what it was I didn't let it bother me any more. I upgraded the wheels shortly after that anyway.

Two of my CAAD9 bikes had rattles that were coming from a loose bottle cage boss (not the screws) so it may not be uncommon. It was easily replaced by the LBS.

I've held them together and I still get the sound

I was going to switch to different cages. I went into a lbs and told them "I need 2 of your cruddiest cages" and walked out spending 10$ lol. But this rattle has only happened in the last 200miles or so (about 2 months as I finished up school. Had to snag the 4.0 again so riding took a hit )

Just to be clear, the bosses are the four threaded parts attached to the frame down tube and seat tube that the bottle cage screws go into.

Will be riding a CAAD soon. Its great to be on board on a very informative forum.
