Ride your CAAD9's.

1. Neuvation M28 (or current model) $275.
2. Bicycle Wheel Warehouse Blackset Race 11 $375.
3. Soul S2.0 Wheels $500.

(In order of cost. I'd go with the Souls of those 3)

The wheels in question, being bought or being repaired, are ksyriums sl's.... I think I'd be hard pressed to enjoy the others as much as I like the ksyriums...

Buy new Ksyrium Elites when they go on sale for like $500. if that's your limit.
(I have 2011 Ksyrium Elites myself) Rebuild old Ksyriums? IMO, not worth it.

:)

Nailed a pothole on Saturday, took the wheel to the shop, and the nipples are seized, so it can't be trued. I have the following two options:

1. Have the wheel rebuilt, new spokes, nipples, and hoop for $325.
2. Found a Caad5 R3000 SI, pink, my size, built with 9-spd ultegra, with the same wheels I'm running (but probably 4 years older), for $500.

I could probably make some money back on the group, possibly sell the frame, or just keep it and throw some cheap wheels on it and use it as a beater..

So, Cult of Caad... What do you think?

Too easy! Buy the bike and ride it as is until you can afford to have the other wheel fixed. Once the wheel's fixed, keep both so that you won't run into this problem again. It's not like running nine speed Ultegra is going to slow you down!

A brilliant deal on custom steel

We actually used the basic dimensions of the CAAD9 front triangle in the design since the bike was such a good fit. The builder was only really customising the rear triangle.

Speaking of CAAD9...a SWEET one has popped up on fleabay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Cannondale-Caad9...item3a6777d608

And...a CAAD4 too:

BTW...for those looking for "sales", right now, the online bike shops seem to be having 4th of July
sales and more importantly, Tour De France sales, so now would be a good time to buy.

I ride for a team sponsored by a frame maker. That helps a lot!

Oddly this looks exactly like my CAAD9 that I bought recently. Same colour, same spec, different size though. It's been sidelined with a busted 105RD and some spokes. The spokes are not easy to come by. I went with some bladed ones for now and was waiting on the RD from Ribble but a postal strike here set me back 2 weeks. One really bad shift or a chain letting go took out the RD short cage, 5 spokes and the chain. Cassette was salvageable with a disc brake tool.

Parts should be here tomorrow! Long weekend and I'm looking forward to my first century on it in the mountains with the wife away. Nirvana.

I love the "Look" sticker on it too......sick bike man. I remember having the white Look pedals on my Bianchi back in the day. I saw Lemond using them, and had to have them.

Well, good to hear she'll be back up and running soon...sick bike eh?

Rutnick 06-30-11 06:50 AM

going to have to give my ride report of my newly built CAAD9. Corners, descends, accelerates and climbs well. Bike is insanely light. I haven't weighed it yet but I'm guessing in the 16lb range. Nothing exotic either. Sram Rival/force mix. Sub 1500 gram wheels and PR3 tires. Alloy ritchey bars and stock seatpost.

I'm glad it is setup for crits only because on long road rides in my area...it will beat you to death. This is vs my Madone, my pedal force and my two steel frames.

I was on the 48 minute mark of a 3 hour ride and went...well, 48 minutes is all I want on this bike so I'm glad it's crit racing only for her.

Smoking hot bike though.

Where are these deals at?

I've been waiting for the 4th of July to roll around to see if there were going to be any holiday specials but so far I'm seeing nothing. Memorial day had some deals but I missed out by a day or two.

I had my sights set on a CAAD 4 Rival but all the LBS around my area Orange County, CA don't want to come down in price. 5%-10% off or you have to "join the club" $150 to get a price break.

When is the best time to buy a bike and get a deal? Labor day weekend?

Had my heart set on a CAAD 10 4 Rival but might end up getting a bike from BikeDirect.com instead.:)

Thanks for the reply 2ndGen! LOL @ Darth Vader!

Many of those shops don't sell Cannondales and aren't in my immediate area.

I want to join the Cult but I also want to get some value for my bike dollar. What's a reasonable price I should be paying for a CAAD 10 4 Rival?

Is 20% off asking too much? $1799 down to 1440? Is that an unreasonable expectation even during some of the holiday 'sales'?

Hard to beat some of the prices on BikesDirect.com looking at the Groupos and then many of them have Mavic Wheels included.

Are those the rouleurs or vitesses? how do you like them? thinking about buying a set of boyd alloys for my caad9. either those or williams system 30s.

I googled "CAAD10-4" and got a number of online bike shops selling them for about $1500.
There's even a CAAD10-3 with Ultegra 6700 for $1,800.

As for the BikesDirect bikes, test ride them and see if you like them. Oh, that's right.
You CAN'T test a BD bike unless you're by one of the 2 or 3 actual brick & mortar shops they have.
My advice, ride as many different bikes as you can, THEN buy a CAAD! Just kidding!
I just said that to tick off some of the Anti-CAADians that troll here!

Seriously though, don't buy a bike you can't ride.
And don't let a couple hundred bucks keep you from having a great bike.
One more thing...when you buy a CAAD frame, you're getting something that is definitely upgrade-worthy.
;)

I'm currently in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I noticed there was an REI really close... I'm thinking tomorrow I might go demo one! Hopefully it's all 2ndGen's hyped it up to be :thumb:
