Maybe people don't want carbon fiber. Carbon Fiber is not the greatest thing in the world.

If I may.....Even the entry level Tarmac uses the SL2 mold that features a tapered head tube and Specialized's 8r carbon which was some of there best carbon only a few seasons ago. Dont mistakenly think that the low-end Tarmac's frame has anything low end about it.

The bike is built. It's not a weight weenie build and it came in a little under 17 lbs, cages included. The only carbon on the bike is the saddle rails. For the same price, I could have gone with Force and saved 1/2 pound (but I'll take the superior stiffness and function of Ultegra for the extra half pound).
That compares favorably with the actual (and many "claimed") weights of most carbon-framed bikes on the market. I would bet money it's lighter than the lower-level Tarmacs. (Granted that the wheels and cockpits all hurt the Tarmacs in the comparison.) I'm pleased with how it turned out. The maiden voyage will probably have to wait until at least Thursday. |
Looking back in this thread, I just realized that the weight came in a full pound lighter than my initial guesstimate. It's great when a plan comes together!
|
But how much did the fork weigh? Picss?
|
cant wait for pics. i may build one with record 10 and eurus wheels

Depressing.....trying to figure out how much the frameset weighs.
|
FWIW....The old E5 S-Works frameset was roughly 1,200gr for the frame (54) and 350gr for the fork. I would bet the 2011 version is very very close to these figures.
|
Weight on my 2011 Allez 56 cm frame/fork and seat post 4.3 lbs
|
the new allez are super sexy!! some should read specs before saying specialized carbon bikes are less than specialized alu...both are great bikes for different budgets....components pass, frames stay...
it would be fun to have an allez, just to have one...:D your (we're) all fat for this sport anyway! start sheding the pounds off before you change from apex to red....watever your money, your problem. |

Does the headtube height of the Tarmac also cause you to tremble?

are they the same? one of the local shops told me the allez had a taller head tube for a more "relaxed" fit

They are identical. The 2011 Allez and the 2011 Tarmac have the same dimensions. Check the "Geometry" tab for the two bikes on the specialized.com website.
