just built up my frame today. 19.22 lbs complete with 6600 ultegra, ksyrium equipes. my 2007 expert and fork size 56 was just over 2000g and im gonna guess that the frame which is a 58 weighs roughly the same, maybe more, given the larger size and larger bottom bearing in the headstand also the 2011 fork has an aluminum steerer as opposed to the 07 with fill carbon fork. definitely feels snappier than the 07 did. excited to take it out tomorrow for real.

I picked up one of the white/blue completes in September, after riding steel for a couple years getting into the sport. I love the responsiveness of the drivetrain and the steering, and Specy did a pretty good job with the components. Apex is lighter than 105 reportedly, and doubletap is a much better shifting system than STI in my opinion. Also digging the tarmac geo - after my buddy crashed his 2010 tarmac and was quoted at 1k for crash replacement, I think AL is the way to go for crits. We'll see how it handles on longer races come spring, I suppose.

I've replaced the carbon wrapped seatpost with the upgraded Specy carbon one, threw on a Fizik aliante, and swapped the CXP22s with 6600/Open Pros. My only peeve is the crank, which I'll be replacing with Rival soon. The 52/36 ring combo is a bit wonky too, I'll probably just go with a standard set up or a smaller cassette. Otherwise I love the Apex drivetrain, and will leave it be til I see a necessary need to swap it out.

All in all, I love the bike. Awesome choice for either a novice to get started or for a more experienced rider too.

Sorry for the extremely noobish question, but does the 2011 Allez accept external bottom brackets?

Thank you.

I'm about to buy one (2011 allez) anyone have any idea what the weight will be like in the A1 frame?
52cm for me, I want to know the weight of the frame (+seat collar+headset) and the fork by itself.

I'm guessing 1500 for the frame and 500 for the fork or something? What do you guys think? I know the E5 is 75 grams lighter, but I can't afford it atm.

Crit friendly frame, but is it comfy on longer rides?

Adrianinkc 02-01-11 06:25 PM

So now that these bikes have been out for a while, what are your thoughts on them ?

VA_Esquire 02-01-11 07:28 PM

i love mine. I built mine up with Rival and Easton EA90 SLX wheels and it weighs 17.75lb
I have gone on several 2+ hour rides with no aches, but I feel that is more due to the saddle....
I love the bike and as previously stated is a very nice crit bike that I dont feel worried about throwing round corners due to it being alot cheaper then its carbon fiber counterparts.

I probably will end up buying a rossetti bike in the future for group rides and and all, but keep the allez for crits. This year I plan to switch the Rival for Force (-0.21lb.) and then probably a set of Yishun 38mm tubulars (-0.64lb.) to bring the bikes weight down from 17.75lb. to 16.9 lb.

my bike. wwwweeeeeeeeeeeee

before it was fitted and all. I have since cut the fork, seatpost, and taken a bunch of those spacers and threw them into a firey pit. literally.

Adrianinkc 02-01-11 08:31 PM

Thanks for the info. Looks great.

Why the hell would you change an entire group for one that's (almost) the same but ~200 grams lighter and costs ~$900?

You could save those 200 grams with the seatpost ALONE. Get a 135 gram seat post.

You could save another 150-200 grams with a full carbon saddle. Geez.

Those ~350-400 gram savings would cost you about $150.

b/c after selling the Rival grouppo itll cost me peanuts....as in sub $200.
I really like the saddle that is on there so I wouldnt get a lighter saddle just to go lighter if it meant my ass hurts all day, but the seatpost is a good idea!
I understand where you are coming from though. I really need to post a new picture of this bike haha

What have you guys been paying for your Allez framesets? I'm looking to get back into riding after selling my bike last year and considering doing a build with the Allez frame.

tagaproject6 07-05-11 04:28 PM

You should be able to get a frameset for about $575.

derek.fulmer 07-05-11 04:48 PM

Thanks. That's what I was expecting.

Mine was $500 plus tax and assembly, bought last March (after the announced price hike). I had the shop take the parts off my too-small CAAD9 and put them on the Allez.

dwatson 07-20-11 08:23 AM

I have been trying to find 56cm frame set, with no luck. My local shop just told me the '11 are sold out and the '12 are going up to $660.

save10 07-20-11 09:17 AM

http://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/art...rticle%2Fimage

apparently the 2012 will have BB30.

dwatson 07-20-11 09:35 AM

Maybe I should put my name on the list. But is a BB30 worth an extra $100?

Steve90068 07-20-11 09:50 AM

It's too bad they didnt sell the frameset in something other than white

dwatson 07-20-11 07:02 PM

From I have seen on the net the '12s will be black and red. I might be putting my name on the waiting list. One review stated that the BB was as stiff as the Caad 10. The only down side is the weight, 1.5lbs heavier than the Caad10.

Oh no...a whole lb and a half? jebus.......

SlowOlympian 07-21-11 03:31 AM

Didnt want to start a new thread, so

I recently purchased the bargain basement 2010 allez from my LBS. I was told here to not bother upgrading it, and save my funds for a better bike. my allez is the only bike i have now, my varsity bit the dust(ill fake a tear here :'( ) I love it. my first quality road bike. my income is limited being 22, but after reading this thread, is there any reason i shouldnt upgrade to 105 or DA, whether it be as soon as i can afford it, or when components need replacing? Is there anything i need to be wary about using an allez as an everyday bike?

dwatson 07-21-11 07:12 AM

If you want to upgrade, do it. Going from 105 to DA will only save a few grams and still work the same. The first upgrade, for me, would be a better wheel set. I put 10 years of mile on an carbon Epic for the late 90's. People told me the same thing when I upgraded, I didn't care.
I will say that if you plan to sell the bike, the upgrades will not net as much as you put into it.

msaad7 07-21-11 01:11 PM

the new 2012's are ugly, the 2011 white and blue are way nicer
