Assos vs Gore
Looking into finally upgarding the bibs.....have been using PI's for years, no complaints, but ready to try something new.
Have been looking at the Assos line and the Gore Xenon series. Want a solid all around daily use bib (good for short/fast rides, but also good for the occasional century as well).
Any thoughts from the masses? I'm sure Assos has been more widely used, but I have a few friends who have raved about the Gore's as well....just hoping to get a couple more opinions

I have worn Assos S-5 Uno and Mille and GBW Power, Xenon, and Sonic Xenon bib shorts. I completed multiple centuries in Xenon and S-5, and I would recommend either one of these over the different offerings. I found the Mille to be too thick, the GBW Power to be good up to 50 miles, and the GBW Sonic were awesome but I was between sizing.
If you want your chamois frontal to extend upward a ways, go for the Uno. If you have happy with minimum space, go with the Xenon. I personally like the fit/compression and feel of the Xenon the best of all listed above.
Having said this, my go to bib shorts are Capo Limited. The first day out on them I did 75 miles and no chamois creme. The second day I put in 201 miles with minimum creme.

I've got both. I like them both a lot. The uno's have a little longer inseam, which is nice. Supposedly the Mille is better for the longer haul. The straps are a little more comfy on the Mille. The differences aren't huge.

I have the Mille's and the Uno's. The Mille's are nice, really nice material, excellent cut and fit great. The Uno's are junk. The pad is the same, but its not located properly in the short and the overall cut leaves much to be desired.
Gore makes some first rate shorts. Every bit as good as Assos. Sugoi's new RSE short is very good also.

I have both. I find myself prefering the Mille, even though I have two of the FI 13s.
In my experience though, you can't talk about bibshorts without factoring the right saddle into the equation. My weight ranges between 210-215Ibs, and I have found out that the perfect saddle for me is the Fizik Arione Wingflex with either the Kium or manganesse rails. The saddle, with the Mille and some chamois cream makes for good 60-65miles, which is my typical ride.

1,500 miles on my assos mille bib and not a single solitary flaw. Are there other companies out there that even come close to comparison?

4178 miles on three pairs of Pearl Izumi Quest shorts. That's the bottom of the barrel here on BF and they don't have a flaw nor have I had any issues with riding that many miles with them.
Then again, what I don't know - I don't know.

look, its real simple when dealing with ASSOS bibs; the more you pay the better they are. srsly. later.

I don't think 1,500 miles is much of a test for bibs since some people probably log those miles in a month or 2 (not me, wish I had the time). I've got about 9,000 miles on 2 sets of performance ultra II bibs that are over a year old and the only issue is the logo printing on the legs is a little cracked. They don't feel worn out at all and I'm not seeing any signs of 'transparancy'. They've always been machine washed in a front loader (hundreds of times) and hung up to dry. I've been very impressed, I think I paid like $60 a pair for them. I've never tried Assos or Gores, but I'm thinking about giving the Unos a try just to see if I'm missing anything with all the rave reviews. I don't expect they will hold up any better than my Ultras, but I'm hoping for improved comfort for the extra $.

For me, number of washes is the important measure of longevity, not miles.
I'm almost two years into two pairs of FI S5's. Worn about 6 days a week and washed in a machine (old top-loader). They are still in very good condition. None of the other brands I have owned came close to this resiliency. Even with the extreme price, I won't be considering another brand when it's time to replace these.

I have alot of Assos stuff and it is without a doubt the best quality stuff out there. Their AirJack 851 and 3 glove system is awesome. The jacket I have worn under a jersey in 30 degree weather and felt OK throughout a 35 mile ride. I have never seen such impeccable quality in clothing anywhere.
My girlfriend once asked me if they made handbags after reviewing the jacket.
Descent and Capo higher end stuff is not far away from assos along with some others.
Sugino is cheap junk and so is ascent.

I have ridden on PI Elite bibs and shorts for as long as I can remember. I loved them up to about mile 55. I bought the Assos Uno bibs and did a century the first day I wore them. Zero pain or soreness. They are insanely comfortable.
I still wear my PI stuff for shorter rides but Assos have become my go-to for longer rides.

I'd buy gore for various reasons most of which are personal.
For starters there is a shop near me which sells gore so I can go give them a try, whereas assos I'd have to buy online. Secondly they are cheaper. Thirdly they match my gore jerseys (although I do have an assos hat, but I might replace that with gore because yes, I am that anal... I am after all a cyclist).
Basically I think it's a pretty individual thing.

I have both Assos and Gore. I find the Gore sizing is way too big. I have the Ozon bibs and Phantom jacket in medium and they are massive on me. In the Assos line I have the FI 13 S5 bibs, Airjack 851 and the intermediate evo. They fit me perfectly and they are a size medium which is what the Assos sizing chart suggests.
The Gore sizing chart actually suggested a large but I went with medium and their stuff is still huge on me. The straps on the Ozon bibs are a good few inches longer than the Assos and the butt is baggy.
The Assos Airjack 851 is a superb fit - it hugs the body so there is no flapping in the wind and I can still wear a base layer under it. The Phantom in a medium size is like a tent. It is far too big. (how can it wick sweat if it's not touching the skin?)
I'm 5' 10"
156lbs
Chest 38-39 inches

Cycling clothing isn't supposed to fit like normal clothing.
I actually thought the Ozon bibs where ok for me and I rode in them for a few months. I then tried the Assos which are physically much smaller in size compared to the Gore and they fit perfectly and are so comfortable.
