Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't care what anybody says, tubes make a difference.

After going through 3 more tubes in 2 months, I finally got my Continental
Race Lite Tubes (75g) and mounted my Continental Grand Prix 4000s Tires.
No more flats after the tire swap. Tubes are just as filled as they were
4 days ago (where as LBS replacement tube was flat at end of 1st day).
My advice to those newbier than me, spend good money on tires and tubes.
1 good tube is less expensive than replacing 4 cheap tubes.

Shaved 130g from OEM set (Maxxis tires were at 230g VS Contis at 205g & OEM tubes were at 117g VS 75g).

I guess some people's idea of a "good" tube is one that doesn't lose any air. To me, that'd likely means it's really thick and not very supple, and I want the exact opposite out of my tubes. Latex tubes, for example, leak a lot but the ride is much better.

FYI most tubes are made in the same few factories, like tires and car batteries, there are only a few real manufacturers out there...

I've never had problems with cheap tubes, though I hate the non-threaded valve type...

Bikes: Yes, I have bikes.

I used Forte tubes and found that the valves were flimsy and unreliable. Now I use a Specialized or whatever my lbs recommends and haven'y had a problem.

I like the Michelin A1 AirSTOP Butyl Road Bike Tube. It has a smooth valve rather than threaded, which makes popping off the air chuck easier. I did have one valve failure when changing a flat with a new tube, but was fortunately on a group ride.

Oops - revived thread - not awake yet.
