I'm new to cycling and to this forum but after reading some of the threads here I'm afraid to ask anything. However, if you have a question, sometimes poking around this site or the internet in general a bit first may help you phrase, and focus your question, which will end up getting you better responses to your question. I think a lot of the threads that meltdown quickly, without the OP getting any useful information, are at least in part the result of not much thought being put into the question. |

Seriously though, it pays to organize your thoughts and provide relevant details if you want a serious answer. If people have trouble figuring out what you're trying to do, it's a lot harder for them to help you. |

So to Tulex, LawnChair, Velo Gator and any other girls I may have offended with my ill chosen words I offer my apologies. :( I really meant to point out that there seems to be a double standard when it's obviously a female OP. A recent case in point isjennifersmith23's post titled "I want to like cycling but... " and it features six pages of generally polite advice. If, say, Collin2424 had posted that he would have gotten maybe eight replies asking him what size is the bike and is he gonna put it on craigslist, one well thought piece of advice (probably from cdr) and the rest would have poked fun at him for a total of less than a page. I'll admit I will try to make a lazy, thoughtless, misspelled and un-grammatical poster sorry he (or her) ever touched a keyboard. And I have regretted doing it on occasion when I realized the poster was sincere and "differently-abled" from the majority. I am ashamed when a new member is intimidated, but in the heading to this sub-forum they are clearly warned it can get rough here. Asking thoughtful, clear questions on road cycling always seems to work regardless of sex. |
tulex is a woman?
never realized. explains quite a bit of her posts. |

Might have to change back though, I'm having an issue with peeing. |

On the internet you can be whoever you want to be. On a rare occasion I pose as a cyclist. |

Normally I go for all that but I was feeling out of sorts those days. |

However, not everyone gets sent through the ringer. When people genuinely appear to be trying to figure things out, people go much lighter on them. Other things that helped Jennifer included being very clear about what she didn't know and wanted to learn, leaving out bravado, being aware of the normal BF response, and nicely asking for something else. She included details that helped people understand who she was, and left out irrelevant ones that are fun to jump on. Writing in a style approaching standard English didn't hurt either.

I wonder if discussions there are as dumb as they are in the 41. That would be impressive.
On the off chance that there are still any women reading this thread, can we have a comment on that? |

But what is highly irritating is the one that opens up intelligently but will argue endlessly if they do not get the the answer that they expected.

Me too, shame on me. Even LawnChair. I guess I should go to Foo once in a while but it's almost like gate crashing a party. I am already ignored at the Addiction thread :(
By the way, I don't think anyone gets ignored in addiction, man or woman. |
You misunderstood, me too like botto did not know you were a woman. And LawnChair as well - I thought was a man. Hence shame on me.
Addiction has an undeniable core group and that is all good. What I said was tongue in cheek. I usually look for amusing coasting and VeloVol banter once in a while and was at one point curious how long that thread could get.
