Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Beautiful Fall ride

Went for a 45 mile ride today . The fall weather was spectacular, windy, warm...the air filled with the smells of the season. Average speed 21.2 mph. Not bad for a 57 year old on a solo ride with an artificial hip and a hip in need of replacement.

Sounds like a good ride. Thank you for making me feel extremely slow.

This 42-year-old went only 40 miles (my longest yet), averaging only 18 mph on rolling terrain - but then I've only been riding for a month. It wasn't warm here, but the sights and fragrances of the season were present just the same (along with vulture-topped roadkill and hunters in orange). 't was good.

Sound like you had fun. I on the other hand rode only a mere 20 miles in temps around forty with a driving rain that turned to sleet for a little while. Needless to day I need better rain gear. Still beats the trainer though, glad I'm not the only one that had fun today.
