Solid Bike Computer (Does one exist?)
#26
So I'm thinking about a new bike computer for the new Orca as I'm not so happy with the ROX 9.0 I have on the old Specialized. After doing some reading here and looking at various reviews around the Internet it would seem that a solid reliable wireless bike computer that has both cad and hrm has yet to be built. The ratings on all of them, even those with gps, are average at best. It would seem that if someone came out with a rock solid device, they'd make millions.

I've never had problems with my Cateye computers.

I have a Sigma Rox 9 and it is a piece of crap. I wanted something that tracked elevation data and it was this or the garmin. I passed on the garmin because I thought the battery life was brutal.
Should have got the garmin....

I am a bit disappointed with my ROX 9.0 as well.

Never had a problem with my Mity 8's. Can't say the same for their mounting hardware...
My Strada wireless hasn't failed yet, and neither has the mount.
I was told, when I bought an HRM, that there is no decent HRM computer that doesn't also do power. So I moved over to the runners section and bought an HRM wrist unit.

Garmin 500.
So far 15K miles, completely trouble free, love it, use it with 5 different bikes, it locates and syncs with the sensors flawlessly.
Garmin makes millions in profit, so yes you are indeed correct.

Really liked my Cateye Strada wireless. However, the OP specifically mentioned cadence and HRM. For that I too vote Garmin Edge 500 which, concidentally, replaced my Cateye. Love it.

No matter what the product, be it cycling related or electronics or pretty much anything you can think of, if you search the internet for opinions, you will ALWAYS find complainers about EVERYTHING. If you made a rule to never buy anything that had complaints about it on the internet you would never buy anything! Most of the time you have to look at the general concensus of opinions and ignore the minority. Actually, IMO the complaints are frequently overly represented, as most people who are satisfied with a product don't bother to write about it but the ones who have a beef feel compelled to warn others of their discovery.

I've been using the Rox 9.0 for a year and a half and it's been great. Not sure what your problems are or why you don't like it, but the guys at customer service are awesome. I'm sure if your having a service issue with the computer they'd bend over backwards to help out. My computer popped out of the cradle and was run over by a car. They sent me a replacement without even asking for the broken computer.
