Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd get a non-stencil Lynskey, the high end Helix or 3xx series / or a Time Frame. I'd like to go back to Campy again and some WhiteMountain wheels and a Quarq with Rotor chain rings.

In case you don't know what a stencil brand is, it's the Performance and PlanetX versions of the Lynskey low end frames. I used this term as it was used to denote the saxophones sold in the early 40's to 60's like the brands that Buescher would make for other music shops.

DANG! I went to build a Kobh at wrenchscience and my dream bike is a little over $15k and just under 13 lbs! A Trek 6.9 SSL that is P1'd is still much cheaper than that and only 1.5 lbs heavier. I'm sticking with either the Infinito CSC, Madone 5.2, or Synapse Carbon 3 then just upgrade the handlebar and wheelset later on in life.

53??? Wow - straight from the p-far days, eh? When do you switch to a Gruber-assisted wheelchair?

Besides, I thought you were above jabs from us bike weenies, sort of like Moses (or more appropriately, Methusaleh?) looking down on his peeps.

This one....

Pinarello_Prince_Di2_2009_Bike_Red..jpg

but I could never buy it, as it would be the end of my bike buying forever. I'd have the best, no need to shop for bike stuff anymore, and the shopping and buying bike stuff is almost as much fun as the riding!!!

I'd like a full titanium bike frame that means a titanium fork. Very few people have titanium forks.

But best of all... I order it this week.

Up in the air about the wheels:

Either:
Campagnolo Record (32) laced to DT Swiss 465 rims, silver DT Comp spokes, brass nipples, 2x lacing all around.
or
Campagnolo Record (32) laced to Mavic Open Pro Ceramic, silver DT Comp spokes, brass nipples, 2x lacing all around.

I'd like an Ellis 953 frame painted a dark metallic blue with polished chain stays, seat stays, top tube , and downtube. Etched lettering on the down tube, Chris King headset, Fizik Alliante carbon seat, Thomson seat post, 3T bar and stem, ZIPP 101 clinchers, full Campagnolo Record group set, Yokozuna cables, and Speed Play pedals. Kind of a modern classic.

Have you used the Yokozuna cables with Record? I've been considering it, started a thread about it, and got no love.

Your build is incredibly similar to something I'm currently putting together, minus the frame. Good taste.

I've only used the Yokozuna with SRAM but it did leave a positive impression on me, particularly the brake housing. Campagnolo already has sweet brake modulation but the one thing I like really about the Yokozuna housing is that it is durable.

This is my first time on Campagnolo (well, on a bike I own)--hopefully it's more functional than mystique.

This! Except will Zipp 404 and Campy Record and a different saddle. I am waiting until Lenskey has a sale on this frame. In the mean time, I have a bike that works fine for me.

Frame: who knows
Fork: Easton EC90 SL
Shifters: SRAM Red
Rear D: SRAM Red
Crankset: SRAM Red BB30
Chain: Dura Ace
Tires: GP4000
Brakes: Force or Rival
Cages: generic carbon
Casette: 105
Pedals: 105 5700
Bars + Stem: Cannondale C3 Alu
Wheels: Deng Fu 50mm carbon tubular
Bartape: Fizik dual, colors to accent the frame
Saddle: Merek Carbon or Prologo, colors to accent the frame.

Edit: pretty dreamy.

Holy crap, I am turning 40 in a little more than 2 years.... maybe I should buy it now, before I am that old and over the hill!

V.
You are only old and over the hill when you think it. I'm 43 and thought that my days are over rebuilding these legs after a very long hiatus. Everyone tells me that I have a good 20 years left if we're looking at long term rebuilding, but will only take 2 to 3 years if I'm really serious of getting back into shape. They say 40 is the new 30? I say don't think numbers and be young at heart! As long as your heart desires and the body is functional, you're never too old for anything.

The SST I posted about is my dream bike. Already started gathering parts. Red group will be in in December. Frame, hopefully January or February.

Actually, I would have no reason to replace my bike either, but I always wanted a second bike and I don't know why. If is good to have a bike, it must be better to have two bikes.
