Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 Secteur - well, that was cheap

So there I was, at my LBS looking for a ski helmet for my son. ( It's the time of year when they move into ski & skate mode ). No luck on the helmet, but they tell me that on Black Friday all bikes in the store will be 40% off.

Just for the heck of it, I look around, since I've been interested in getting an entry-level road bike to supplement my touring bike. They have a 52cm Secteur on the floor - the base model triple. What the heck, I'll take it out for a spin.

Hmmm. You know, for pretty much half price, I could live with it until the cheap shifters and derailers annoy me, and then replace them.

I tell the guy that if they'll give me the Black Friday price right now, I'll take it. He pretends to think about it, and we make a deal.

So tomorrow, I'll go pick it up. I can be happy with it for $480 plus the cost to swap out the pedals for SPD's. :-)

Thanks all! When I saw what kind of deal I could get, I decided it was worth it, since I could still buy an Apex/105 class groupset new, swap everything out, and still come out ahead.

Congrats! Sounds like a steal. Do many bike shops do the black friday thing? If so, I may have to go shopping earlier than planned.

It was RV&E in Fairport, NY. Their website is at https://rvebike.com/ . They're truly excellent when it comes to treating you right. I picked up the bike today, and realized I needed two 25mm tubes and a couple of C02 carts. The manager threw them in for free, saying they appreciate how much stuff I've bought there.

They're primarily a Specialized dealer, so if anyone in the Rochester area doesn't mind getting up early, it's a chance to get a great deal.

The manager told me that they've never tried it before, but I can see it being a great sales tool for them.

Does that mean I need to wash off my garage door? ;-) I'm not sure I'd be able to meet BF photo standards - I already put a seat bag and cyclocomputer on it, and a taillight will be next. ;-)

Rules were made to be broken. I don't even have a garage door let alone a garage!
