Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Roubaix is Here

Finally picked up the 2011 Roubaix from the LBS today. I cannot express how satisfied I am with the service that McLain Cycle in Traverse City, MI provided.

Originally I was going to buy the 61cm 2010 Roubaix that they had in stock, but ended up going with the 2011.

Ordered the bike with Shimano 105 components and had the shop switch them out for the Rival gruppo from the 2010. I preferred the double tap system over shimanos.

Now its time to get a roof rack for the car and get riding, hopefully the snow will hold off for a while.

Very good looking bike! I chose the Madone 6.9 over the Roubaix but struggled with the decision. No regrets, perhaps next time. I am, however, looking at a Specialized Transition.

Go ride,

Great bike - Congratulations.

Why didn't the dealer simply get you a 61cm 2011 Roubaix Comp Compact Rival?

I'm curious because the 61cm Rival version is one of the bikes I'm seriously considering and I was wondering if there was an availability issue.
Thanks, and good luck with it.

Congratulations - makes me want one even more. Hopefully be year end!

Couple of questions: is the saddle stock, and if not - what did you replace it with? what type of pedals are you using? what kind of computer are you using?

Have fun, you've got a sweet ride!!

Kylerk - When it came down to ordering the 2011, the LBS said they were aware of a back order on the Rival Roubaix, I didnt want to wait an indefinite amount of time (it could have been less then 2 weeks but...) So instead I ordered the Shimano Roubaix and had the Gruppo swap done. Thanks

Pug - Thanks! The seat is a Specialized Avatar which is stock on the Roubaix, the pedals are Speedplay Zero Stainless, and the computer is a Specialized Speedzone Sport Wireless.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, I hope there will be some decent riding left for this winter, worst case HTFU and plow through it or buy a trainer.
