Using a 9 speed chain on a 10 speed cassette?
So I have a Sram 9 speed chain that I bought in August when I first built up my bike with a 9 speed cassette. Now that I'm switching over to using a 10 speed cassette I still would like to use the chain; it has low mileage, hasn't stretched at all (if it has it's very minute), and it has the very useful powerlink which I like when I go to clean and lube the chain.
My question is: would this 9 speed chain work with a 10 speed cassette? Or do I have to buy a new chain which I would rather not do?

No. It's likely to rub against the neighbor gears at best, and at worst, get stuck against them.
By the way, did you also switch to 10 speed shifters?

How many miles on that 9 sp chain?
Chain wear is more than pin and sideplate (bushing) wear; the rollers wear as well.
Protect your investment, get a good ten speed chain; kmc has a removable link, as does the whipperman.
If'n that chain's mileage is approaching 1k, it's well past the break-in stage. Besides, it's too wide.

I recently went from a nine- to a ten-speed drivetrain, and have kept the nine speed parts for when I can find a used frameset at a good price so I can build a backup bike. Remember, the number of bikes you need is N+1, where N equals the number of bikes you have.
