Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Availability of Square Taper Campagnolo BBs.

I know I am still running a 2006 Record crankset and it is getting harder to find replacements BBs here.

Is anyone else finding this? Is it time to stock up?

Has anyone found a suitable alternative BB?

I'm using a Phil Wood and they seem to be stocking them ... The Campa one's seem to be a bit scarce here in the US (and expensive), but the Brit shops seem to have them... As an alternative you can use the SKF https://www.compasscycle.com/SKFbb.html ...

Those BBs are only in 111mm. The 10spd Record and Chorus stuff is 102mm.

Based on what you're saying it seems like the supply is drying up and now it's time to start looking at alternatives.

I have a couple of these cranks and even when my team switches over to 11 spd I'd still like to be able to use the Record carbon cranks I have.

The search is on!

I thought I was the only one still using square taper. What crank uses the 111 mm ?

Centaur doubles on down.

And, IIRC, Chorus triples.

Edit: Oh, and Record Pista.

Record and Chorus triples require a different asymetrical spindle, with the 111mm length. Shops will only stock what they can sell. It's hard to know which BBs Campy is still making, since they only list the square taper BB for track cranks in their current spare parts list. You might want to contact Campy directly.

It's amazing how fast the "older" parts seem to dry up these days. I've recently had a bit of trouble finding Campy 10 speed chain rings of all things. I say stock up when you find them. Good luck!

I took a flyer on a Token model with the 102 spindle a couple years ago and it has held up real well. I think you can still find them. Certainly was cheap enough...IIRC, it was less than $30 for a non-carbon version.

Honestly I think I may end up going that route.

When I switch over to 11spd the old stuff will go into semi-retirement. I won't be looking for performance (no need for Phil here) I'll probably just be looking for something that will work well enough for the limited use the old gear will see.

I don't have a particular build in mind but I know they won't be on my primary bikes.

Bikes: everywhere

Universal has Chorus for $105 + shipping:
https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...6&category=607

Whenever I have a little spending money I hit eBay to look for some, but of course they're all English whenever I look.

If you have English thread, Wiggle has the Tokens that 55 mentioned for $25.
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/us/token-tk8...ottom-bracket/

and the Chorus in English or Italian for $86

What about the Miche BB's
https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...&category=2632

Edit. I should look more carefully before I post. I don't see the 102 in the Miche.
Jenson has the Chorus in stock

If you get real desperate, worn out bearings can be replaced. The Campy BB use standard cartridge bearings - two 6803 and one 6903.

I think I just may do this for the fun of it.

Suggestions on how to best accomplish this?
