Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For the most part, those traffic lanes look quite wide.

Interesting that the guy didn't come to a complete stop at the sign @ 2:25

Given how you purportedly almost have a crash every other ride, I recommend that you down two or three five-hour energy shots and watch the entire thing. Maybe they'll come out with a park riding sequel which will be more pertinent to your interests.

Quit watching at about the 1:40 marke when the guy says that while making a left hand turn he "makes eye contact" with a driver on the right to "make sure the driver would not pull out". As a former motorcycle rider I can promise you that eye contact means nothing. All it means is that the driver is looking in your general direction. It DOES NOT mean the driver actually sees you.

The best piece of advice while riding is to ride like you are invisible.

I didn't know there was a video I was supposed to watch. Can you send this to me about 14 years ago?

It's better than not having the driver look your way at all.

If someone is at an intersection waiting to turn out, I often try to make eye contact. What more can you do?

sometimes when a car wants to cross in front of me, it starts to move and then stops suddenly as it changes its mind. that is scary. not knowing if it will stay put or not. i normally shout at the car at that point. just in case.

Correct.

I still try to ascertain whether the driver is looking at me, I just also expect them to try to run me over anyway. If they don't run me over, they may get a smile and a wave as a reward.

How is a driver going to hear you yelling unless he/she is close and has the windows open?

I don't do anything until I am absolutely sure that the car is not going to move. Even then, you just never know. I just didn't like the way the video made it seem like all you need to do is make eye contact and you are good. Graveyards are full of dead motorcyclists who thought the other guy saw them. One of the things they teach at motorcycle safety classes is don't assume that just because you make eye contact with a motorist that they actually see you.

Man o man - the narrator needs to turn into a 18 year old hottie to make this thing interesting.

I'm posting a video of my dog to counteract the dullness of the piece. The only thing pertinent about my dog's video is the density of traffic I ride when I am in NYC.

What crappy roads! Not sure if your worst enemy as a cyclist is cars or the road. I guess the Pennsylganastan's DOT budget is a bit thin.

To demonstrate "Confident City Cycling" first you need to go to a "City"?

That was one of the longest hours of my life. Was Troy McClure not available for the voiceover?

This is how you make an interesting public information film.

Coasting - I'm guessing if Schnoppy is behind the wheel he's not going to stop.
