Alternatively, they should start a sub-forum for people up in Northeast Ohio to discuss the merits of wolverine-fur riding jackets versus badger-fur riding jackets.

We are not pansies. Pansies actually thrive in the rain. We melt :P.

I went the first day of the rain for 25 miles. Road down to the Back Bay and back. Bike was filthy. Dirt and mud splattered everywhere. Chain a mess. Brakes a mess. Wheels and spokes a mess.

So I put it on the bike stand, took the wheels off and proceded to clean the bike for the next 40 minutes. Last time I'm doing that.

We're blessed (cursed) with like 10 days of rain a year down here. Oddly, 6 of them were in a row and the infrastructure is ill-equipped to support drainage for such once-every-decade storms.

I don't care if it's 2 degrees where you live. I don't care if it rained every day for the past 6 months where you live. I don't care if you ride a mountain bike in 9 inches of snow with windshield wipers on your glasses.

I live where I live because I don't have to do all that **** every time I want to go for a ride and I damn well won't apologize for it. I'm proud of it.

To me it's like watching those survival idiots on TV. Oh, you can take a rancid three-week old carcass of a jackelope and actually eat the stomach contents? Oh, great. Glad for you. Fun to watch. But you can find me at Ruth's Chris discussing your idiocy with my fellow weather-weenie friends.

Yeah cleaning the bike after riding in the rain is another reason why i don't ride in this weather. Not to mention all of the terrible drivers we have out here. I almost get hit on a daily basis in sunny cloud free 75 degree weather, to get on the slick roads with our terrible drivers is a huge gamble with my life.

It's only water.

I won't complain about the rain. We need it and we are very fortunate to have the weather we have. What frustrates me is that it will rain every day up until New Years Eve, then will be sunny, blue skies and 78 degrees for the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl. Makes people think it's that way every day here.

I'm also frustrated with the rain because I finally got time on Sunday to go ride with the Santa Clarita Tri Club. I hear it's a good group of peeps and I was finally going to join them for a ride. The rain killed the ride. Oh well, maybe this week.

I don't mind when it rains on school days, but this rainy Saturday & Sunday junk is getting tiresome. I want my coastal desert back!

For you San Diego visitors, here are a few decent routes around SD and SoCal. (Clicky.)

With all of the stuff that we have to put up with here in the SoCal we'd appreciate a little sympathy when the weather is bad!!!!

I wish. It's also all the crap that's been sitting on and beside the road all year and the junk floating off of people's driveways and yards. :) I do agree that we need it. It cleans the roads except where the mudslides occur.

GirlAnachronism 12-21-10 12:35 PM

^I grew up about a mile South of that photo. Can't wait to see it on a bike.

Cal wussies are made of salt.

Around here just the roads are.

Nah. It's still the honeymoon. Ridicule would be more verbose. Despising would be..... well you don't rate those kinds of efforts.

Come to Montreal. It hasn't rained for weeks.

gundom66 12-21-10 01:01 PM

We were supposed to get the bulk of the rain all the way through Thursday. I'm glad SoCal stepped up and took it from the Bay Area. :p Actually, it was pouring for a bit last Friday afternoon in my area and I saw a group ride having fun with it. ;)

Nah, idiocy usually reigns supreme as the topic du jour...

Grumpy McTrumpy 12-21-10 01:10 PM

wow. your fancy dinners sound kind of ... not fun.

Garfield Cat 12-21-10 01:11 PM

After the rain stops, take a ride to Long Beach near the harbor and take a look at the color of the ocean water as the L.A. river washes everything down.

Surprisingly, I haven't heard of any rescues from the rivers lately. Usually, somebody decides to go river rafting.

Maybe you don't think so, but those poor natives of the flyover states of American Siberia apparently have enough time and bitterness on their hands. You were starting to sound like one...

You wouldn't enjoy them at all. Too high-brow for you.
